I had this very same problem at the start of the year.
Heart says Honda, head says Viking. On paper the Viking is a great mower and somewhat cheaper than it's Honda equivalent. However, the Viking looks horrendous and Hondas are beautiful. Viking mowers are more on a par with Hayters with Honda being a step up again IMO.
I went for Honda in the end as I wanted a steel not plastic roller. The roto-stop function is great. My only criticism of Honda mowers is the self propelled models are slower than Vikings. They can be tweaked to increase speed.
Honda are the superior machine but you do pay for it.

before you buy anything , decide whether you need a mulching deck.
Trust me , if you have a lot of grass cuttings , they will not compost down quickly.
We ended up getting a skip in the first 2 years of having an acre of grass , collected by a Countax with collector.
Now got a 48" mulching deck on a 21hp John Deere , truly excellent. Doesnt leave any mess on the grass either .
