Have managed to break one of the door fittings on our fridge- a big long crack across the bottom of the fitting and a clean break upone side.

its the white hard plastic you typically find in fridges- and its an older fridge so i can't buy a replacement.

Is it possible to do a DIY repair, and if so, how?

ABS can be solvent welded with the glue used to join waste-pipes, but a lot will depend on how much stress it's taking.

I appreciate you state DIY, but how about looking at a local automotive plastic welder (bumpers etc)?

It completely depends on what the plastic is.

Plastic is a generic word and there are thousands of different types. Some can be welded easily and others will just burn and shrink.
