I picked up a B&Q portable air conditioner unit from the boot sale, without a manual alas.

Now, possibly a stupid question, in air con mode obviously I need to vent the hot/humid air outside but any idea if I would need to vent it if it's running in dehumidify mode? confused

There is an internal tank to collect water, plus I would need to puncture a hole in my shed which I don't want to do unless it's required smash

Bump tongue out

(If I get no response, I'll assume I do need a vent and will be shortly followed by a thread "Tried creating a hole in my shed, should I have used fire...?")

It's been about 7 years since I last used one but no, you don't need to vent for dehumidify mode. Just make sure you empty the water regularly

Actually I'd rather drill a hole to the outside and put a neat little cowl over it than have to keep emptying the water - you'd be surprised how quickly it collects.

This! If the air is very humid you'll be pulling a litre an hour out easily!

Remove the tank and fit a pipe to drain to outside.

With the vent in place I suspect it will just work as an air cooling unit, with the vent off it will put the hot air back into the room.

Yes you do. In order for the unit to dehumidify the air the refrigeration cycle needs to take place. So you need the condenser hose ducting outside.

Cheers,

Rick.

Ok I'll see if I can get holes made to vent the exhaust and water.

I thought my shed was quite well ventilated (i.e. full of gaps etc. - the roof is ok though!) so I was very surprised by the amount of condensation on the motorbike eek Hopefully the vent hole (with cowl) will improve the ventilation further when the aircon/dehumidifier is not in use.

Cheers beer
