Discussion
I have an old shed in the garden which has woodworm. I want to take down and dispose of but the route I will need to take it through is a partially built extension with exposed wood. Is it really easy to spread or should just carrying it through quickly be OK? Other route would be to burn it but I'm not sure how long this would take in an incinerator or how popular I would be with the new neighbours! Would a shed company normally take away the old one if paid a bit more? Thanks
You should be fine taking it through the extension. The eggs and larvae in the wood are unlikely to be dislodged unless you are particularly heavy-handed whilst moving it inside the extension. The main spread of infestation occurs when the adult beetles emerge to breed and lay their eggs on new sites, but they wouldn't generally be emerging at this time of year (it is normally May-September)
