The architect has gone on holiday and his staff are useless - he has specced solid oak fire doors in a 'barn' ledge and brace design.

However he has specified a 25mm front t&g panel with 30mm rear bracers.

This does not seem right to me, I thought the front face panel would have to be 44mm with whatever sized braces for a FD30.

Got lost on the planning portal website and my local office is closed, but I need to get this quote finsihed by tomorow lunch - and the price difference between 1" oak and 1 1'2" oak is quite a bit.

Any help appreciated

My experience doesn't go into the minutia, but I would quote for exactly as he has asked and then include a short appendix explaining your concern and with the appropriate uplift in cost as an option.

It's been a very very long time (over 10 years) since I looked at using bespoke fire doors but if I remember correctly they need to be certified as fire resistant and in order to get this a sample door need to be tested and approved, this was very expensive.

As I said this was a very long time ago and I may have got my wires crossed and maybe completely wrong.

I'd speak to buiding control before making anything to confirm what is acceptable to them

Already expressed my concerns to the client (we working direct for them) - just frustrating that it is so hard to pull an answer off the government website.

We made some 2 years ago in a more traditional rail and stile design without the need for testing, but the architect had subbmitted the designs to the relevant bodies for approval first.

Will quote as is with a large footnote showing the more likely cost outcome.

This, we come across similiar and price as designed with a footnote that we consider them to be incorrect and pricing what we see as the correct version.
