I've recently finished building a garden for my elderly mother at her new'ish house and thought i'd share a few photos

The developer only put down a few concrete pavers on concrete dabs, and the 1.2m slope from the top left was never dealt with properly, and with only a bit of topsoil on. The turf laid 2 years ago was churned up into mud by the dogs last winter, and the slope made the garden unusable and dangerous for a pensioner in places, so it was time to sort it out

The pavers are long aspect edging / coping pavers from Bradstone, and make a change from the usual square ones

I was surprised at the sheer volumes of concrete, earth moving, sand and cement, and gravel it all took. All the sleepers are set into concrete footings, and compacted MOT Type 1 sub base everywhere. All work was done manually with only a power drill for the timberlok screws in the sleepers

Hard work....

Nice work - I like the look... very Japanese in a way with the gravel and spacings and use of clean wood/low walls.

Star son! Very nice work.

What are the long grey slab things? Is the pale gravel loose or stuck in place somehow?

Looks very nice, good place to read the papers on a sunny summer afternoon with a cold beer in hand.

Regarding leaves - a leaf vac is your friend on gravel!

very true, as we're just finding out

however the white gravel enables the pet dog t*rds to be spotted well before any danger of treading on them

they're edging / coping units that can also be used as pavers - just liked the proportions as different to standard square modules

the gravel is nordic spa and spread loose between pavers, but on a proper sub-base
