Well after finishing our self build the garden was just 'thrown in' so to speak.
I seeded the top level to hopefully have a bit of grass and then built a deck, small patio and threw down some gravel to keep the rest clean.

We endured it for 18months until deciding -
1) The neighbours shoot trees block any sun at the front of the house so the grass would barely grow.
2) The dogs gallop up and down the grass so eventually it was mainly moss.
3) Trying to find/collect dog st in gravel is a time consuming process!! hurl
4) A good mate has his own business in artificial grass idea

So last month I got on with clearing all the gravel, scraping away what grass there was, built an extension to the current decking and did the ground work ready for the new 'garden'

Some before pictures

Front path where trees piss me off!

And here's the after shots with the dogs seemingly quite impressed with their new play ground!!

We absolutely love it as do the dogs! No more muddy foot prints, next to zero maintenance - though I may get a few funny looks when I'm out there with the Dyson!

You won't need the dyson, apart from when the leaves fall, pick up any twigs or other larger objects and the birds do the rest.

Always wondered about this: What happens when the dogs use it as a toilet ie does the pee just soak through or stay there in a puddle?

Thinking of getting it for mine but we have a big problem with other people's cats, local foxes and parrot droppings?

Dog pee just soaks through ours,it's no less hygenic than a natural lawn in my opinion.

If one of the dogs does a loose poo it just washes away with a hosepipe quite easily as well.

Highly satisfied with ours,it's been down 9 years now, and I still get asked "how do you keep the lawn looking so good in winter" by people who see it from a distance.

As said above, it's got a latex backing which has hundreds of holes in it so it's fully permeable. As for the number two's pick them up as normal and if there's anything still there either the rain takes car of it otherwise get the hose out. In 6 weeks or so the weather has taken care of everything.

If you're interested my mate covers nationwide so I'm sure he'll come to some sort of pistonhead deal wink
