I have been contacted & offered £5K a week, for 4 weeks, house near Dorney Lake which is the rowing venue. Kind of tempted, but dont really fancy a house-full of hairy arsed rowers partying there!

yikes

How does that compare to the amount it'd be worth for a long term rent?

They are trying to stop people renting out council houses and make it ilegal just heard on the news.
Don't know if it's relevant but there we go.

Awesome. Do you think they'd have any interest in my Bristol flat? It's quite close to the train station to London!

So who are the people to contact if you want to rent out? Would be useful information to share on here.

I recall seeing that the council advise you need a "licence" for short term lets, and planning permission too frown

I started a thread about this a little while ago http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a....

Would still be interested in any info anyone is willing to share on deals done - how, where, to whom etc.

It won't be relevant to anyone on PistonHeads.

I would do it for may 7k a week and empty out everything fro mthe house bar the essentials that you would get in a hotel.

If it all goes tits up and they wreck your hosue I am sure 28k would ocver it.

Tower Hamlets were arguing this for any house, including private ones. Guess the solution is to let it on a long term licence with a break clause!

Bloody hell, that's £1k more than they offered you last month. Give it another month and it will be £6k.
Different company been in touch! Minus their 10% comission of course.
But its not so great when you think seriously about it...

Taxable income?
Who looks after the pets.
Where do me & family go! (I cannot take leave during Olympics).
Storage of valuables & personal stuff.
Insurance?
Don't really want others using my bed!

Definate no no from me..

Friend rented out her flat during Edinburgh Festival. Only for three days, but when she returned......

Someone had puked on the bed and not mopped it up. Carpet in lounge was burned and had lots of spill marks. TV screen was cracked. Shower head was missing. Dishes not even washed.

Insurers wanted nothing to do with it as their T&Cs prohibited sub-letting. The agency she had let through went into administration and didn't return the deposit. Result: About £2,000 worth of damage for £600 rental income.
