SHMBOs brother is popping over tomorrow to help me change a couple of taps ...

Yes I know it should be easy, but when you haven't done it before, and water makes a hell of a mess, I thought it sensible to have someone on hand who is experienced.

Thing is, I said I'll give him some money for his time, how much should I offer ...

Thanks in advance ...

Turn the stopcock off, open taps until water stops flowing, replace taps-done. Offer your helper £25 and a crate of beer.

He's your wifes brother, will he expect payment? Some beer as a gesture of thanks but I wouldnt expect money if it were me.

If it was me I'd get you to give me a hand in return sometime. That or, "Oh, just get us a pint sometime."
Never money, too much chance of bad feeling.

Thanks guys, I'll get him some beer and £20 then ..
He doesn't earn that much I don't think, so a few quid will be gratefully received. I'm pretty sure he won't accept it - but if I don't offer something 1) I'd feel bad and 2) I couldn't ask again in the future.

Well to finish story ...

Replaced taps, I did one, SWMBOs brother did the other - and said just to buy him a drink ...
So I gave him £20 ... and he seemed happy.

Took about 30mins all in as getting the earth straps back on was a bit fiddly, and my meter played up when I sent to check them ..

Thx all,

M
