Hi All
Having loft conversion wired and at stage where electrican has run cables for sockets etc and plasterboard has been fixed in place. Flooring still to be fully fixed. Problem is in 1 room which I plan to use as an office I have not asked for enough sockets. Electrician has run cables for two double sockets where I said I wanted them on opposite sides of the room but I realise I need to make these double sockets into 4, ie so I have two doubles beside each other.
I am wondering if it is possible to add another double socket from the two cables he has left for the double socket?
aMy electrician is now on holiday for 10 days and builders will want to progress the conversion work. Please advise on what I can do?! Feel really stupid for not getting this right and don't want to be a pain asking electrician to run another cable.(However I am wondering if this can still be done from the bathroom below, as this is being renovated too and ceiling is exposed.)
Cheers for any advice

Assuming the sockets are run off a ring main you should be able to add one spur to each socket.

If the boards are screwed on and not yet skimmed I'd be tempted to do it properly though.

Break into the ring and add sockets that way.

He has already laid the main ?ring main :ie he has laid the cables for 4 seperate double sockets (one in each corner of the room). I need to add another 2 sockets to 2 of the doubles , so I will have 4 sockets in 2 corners of the room and 1 double in the remaining 2 corners

You can either break into the ring or add spurs. Both easy when boarded but not skimmed. The former will give you more flexibility should you want to add spurs at a later date.

assuming it a ring main, and presuming you want the extra double sockets next to each other? you should have to 2 cables sticking out the wall, lets call one a feed one a return, all you need to do providing there is enough cable is connect the feed to one socket, the return to the other and then add a small piece of cable between the 2. shouldn't cause any problems or dramas and can be done very easily.

Thanks very much to you all for your help.

I have just come down from the loft and the length of the remaining two cables coming out from the wall are 64 and 53cm for one double and 32 and 21cm for the other. So hopefully this will be enough to do what Shimmey says?

My electrician is very competent so I am sure will know what to do, it's just I really don't want to email him when he's on holiday. I will try and ask builders to hold off plastering till he comes back.

Hi Shimmey
Yes it's got kingspan stuff behind and then plasterboard over the top. So if the builders need to crack on, are you saying the extra points can be added afterwards?

Sorry guess I answered my question. Just one other thing...I am having new circuit/fuse board installed, but I was wondering how much is the limit ie: points) you can have (generally)?

yes they can be added afterwards and there is a limit but its not on amount of sockets but power likely to be put through them and the square meterage the ring main serves. so i am sure that a couple of extra sockets, unless they are all to be running water heaters, heaters, tumble dryers etc then you will be fine.
