Just been cleaning off the drive and I managed to split the inlet hose on my pressure washer 3 times!

Basically once I release the trigger and the motor stops the inlet hose bursts!! Very annoying.
Water pressure is quite high where I live 2-3 bar but I have never had this before.
Hose was reasonably new too.

Anybody got any ideas whats going on?

Looks like you need a pressure reducing valve. Never seen one but they do exist. I expect a tradesman will be along before long with more specific advice

yes It's called a tap. Turn it on less.

Further to that not helping which bit of 'the inlet hose' exactly have you split? Was it in the middle? At the joint to the water supply or at the pressure washer?

sounds like a NRV isn't doing its job and is letting high pressure water back through the pump and bursting the lower rated hose, strip and look for debris in the nrv

Seriously? What effect do you think that will have on the pressure?

It's just next to the pressure washer. About an inch or 2 from the connector. Ripping quite a big hole in it so its a lot of pressure.
I will be annoyed if its bust already. Only used it about 5 times!

What are you calling the inlet hose? The hose from your tap to the pressure washer? If that's splitting it could be you simply need a better quality hose.

Yep. Hose from tap to pressure washer. It's a proper hozelock hose. Maybe a year or so old. Certainly has never had any other problems with anything else connected to it.

Shame, I was looking forward to picking up on that one.

2 to 3 bar isn't that high as pressure goes. I'd expect a hose to be able to take much much more that that.

Does sound like the non-return valve in the jet-washer because mains pressure should not burst a hose pipe.

Well I stripped it down and there was a fair amount of scale in the nrv seems to have fixed the problem. Bigger problem is that I didn't realise in taking it apart all the oil would drain our the pump. So it's now on my garage floor. As a temporary bodge I stuck some engine oil in it. Hmmmm... Not my best plan ever. It worked but probably only at 50% pressure. Pump oil seems expensive and hard to get hold off. May be time to upgrade!
