bathroom refit, marble installers have damaged shower tray.
Discussion
our bathroom is going from bad to worse, we had some marble panels in our shower installed, been waiting for the glue to set for a few days. Apparently it was a real hard job for the installers as they said it was tight and they were worried it was going to break as they were taking up the stairs due to the tight angles, missus was cleaning the tray today as the shower door is going in later and she noticed some deep nicks in the tray where they have put the tray in! Really gutted and dont know how we can get it back. the the panels are sat on the shower trya so it can be just slide out.
any suggestions, i thought about polishing out the scratch a little so its not so noticable.

is it a Granite tray or a normal stone/acrylic tray?
Granite tray could easilyhave any chips filled.
On an acrylic/stone tray it really depend show deep the scratch or dent is, but most trays can be polished surprisingly deeply to remove scratches...just inform the installers and get them to take care of it.
Or buy yourself a bath rubber and have hours of fun..

What material is the tray? Stone or acrylic?
We had this nightmare.... one of our builders 'oiks' (couldn't be described as 'labourers') dropped their power drill in our shower as it was all being fitted - it punched a hole through the tray. The oik said nothing and you couldn't see the damage as the tray still had the protective plastic coating on it - it came to light just before tiling.
Stone can be filled and re-polished so you would never know. Acrylic is harder to fix, but do-able and it depends how deep the marks are as to whether they can be polished out. Got any more detail?

got the marble company coming round today supposidly to finish up but wife will have to speak to them. The company thats fitting the shower door said that the marble has been incorrectly templated as its so close to the ceiling its had to be squeezed in and its slightly out from the wall at the bottom, when i say slightly only a few mm.
just so annoying waited ages to have this done and they were busy so we had to wait for them in the first place.
wife wants them to claim on their insurance and rip it all out and start again.
I dont know how strong that adhesive is but i reckon it wont come out easy.
wife has got a fun conversation this afternoon with the marble installers.

Ooof, that isn't going to polish out... You might be able to find someone to do a repair, but if it was my money I would want it replaced. If that means ripping the whole lot out and starting again, then it becomes a judgement call. Might you be able to replace just the tray, cut out the old one a slide a new one in? (Cut across it in an X from the corners for extraction). If the installers haven't got the marble right anyway, it sounds like it will all have to come out and be re-done - can the door installer not fit the door as the marble is out of plumb? If it is all pulled out and you start again, you would at least have a good opportunity to fit one of these http://www.classic-marble.com/classi_seal.php - that would save you having to worry about leaks in the future too....
cheers all, yeah i thought baout perhaps trying to crack the tray out bu theres no gaurantee that the new one woudl go in that easy. dont know what to do for the best until they turn up this afternoon. we only owe £500 left so i guess they could end up walking from the job for that amount of money
Definitely get the builder to sort it but if you get no joy or decide its not worth the hassle chasing them then building sites often use specialists repairers for such damage, they are a bit like SMART repairers for buildings rather than cars.Google Magic man for an idea of such companies. Plastic can be filled, sanded and polished so I don't think its a total loss.
As above, not a disaster and easily solved with a smart repair. Fill, sand, polish. These things happen unfortunately.
The sign of a good company is not that they never make mistakes or have accidents. It's how they handle those occasional inevitable mistakes and accidents.
Hopefully your guys will hold their hands up and get the problem resolved to your satisfaction.

thanks all, probably not the best news they were due back today to finish off, running late and called my wife, she mentione dthe scratches over the phone, which i would have left out the conversation until they got here but anyway shes said it now. the guy (not sure if hes the boss who fitted it said it was a real tight squeeze to get the marble in and the marble is in and set now. he said he will pop over tomorrow and take some photos.
We have took photos but no other trade have been in that room since the marble guy was there. i was really hoping they would put there hands up and try to fix it but im starting to worry they wont.
We have paid on credit card so im hopeful they can help if we start from the beginning again.

You can get people who specialise in repairing damaged baths, basins, any surface finish really.
Just a Googled company, but they are around and about - http://www.plastic-surgeon.co.uk/repair-knowledge-...
Had never had out, but have looked into for damaged baths before.
