Strange in all the sixty plus topics here on PH there does not seem to be a "Security" heading.
We have a lot of valuable cars and other assets here.

Some years ago I bought one of these
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPbQwjF5Clw

Made in China it seemed to answer a lot of my problems. It works quite well but it is a bit clunky and it is not part of a system. So to cover my property I would need to buy several individual units.

What I really need is something similar to this device which will send me a taxt, real time picture and another set of pictures to my email, but which can cover not only my car but all the rooms in my house and business premises.

There must be a system now with multiple smaller discreet cameras, using mms,sms and email
so I can be anywhere in the world and still keep an eye on things via my iphone.

Has anyone a good system to recommend?

Usually dealt with on this section of PH. Many CCTV systems have network capability and motion detection; look at CCTV threads.

Most DVR's have the ability to send emails on a trigger, that trigger can be either motion detection or a normally open or normally open hardwired input. The problem with the DVR's camera motion detection is false triggers due to spiders and webs.

Hard-wired sensors are far more reliable. Optex "redwall" external PIR sensors are designed to "see" the same area as a CCTV cameras and you will see these used extensively around secured premises. They do seem to suffer from false triggers from cats though. You can get external PIR's and set them up in "pet alley" mode where they are far more reliable.
Finally you can also use infrared beams which are very reliable but require positioning carefully to provide the desired protection.

Eliot, you seem to be a man in the know regarding detectors. Redwall was a brand owned by the designer (name long forgotten) of many PIRs made in the 1980s - and after. They were/are about the best of outdoor passive infra-red devices. The company of which I was a part at the time made outdoor Doppler microwave detectors with sophisticated signal processing to eliminate false trips from swinging targets. Where external stimulii were unavoidable (very large targets outside the potected area) we recommended that two units facing each other should be connected either in parallel so that they both had to trip together, or the two opposing units operated through a double knock system so that two trips in a short period, not possible with outside targets, would set off the system. This technique can be used with PIRs too, of course, and if correctly assessed, a small heat source like a cat would never be close enough to both devices at once to cause an alarm, but a big target like a man would.

Looking into this myself, got the PIR light done in the right areas.
Driveway alarm as well, just looking for a better CCTV system.
As I am now more rural as well.

That's a great tip!
