Can you own a house and still be eligible for council housing/housing association?
I ask because a bloke at work rents out his house in a different area then lives with his wife and kids in a housing association house in a different area.
How can this be allowed?
And how is he getting away with it?

Yes it's possible.

A friend of mine is disabled, so gets a social council flat on the ground floor, and rents out his townhouse. The council were made aware from day 1, so had to wait about a year for the flat to become available.

The flat's rent isn't discounted, whereas his neighbours are.

A friend of mine has a housing association flat and has to prove income each month, so I guess your bloke at work is not declaring the income.
