As above, i'm shortly going to be ordering a new double garage door. I had originally thought about a sectional, but TBH I want to free up the headspace that the door would encroach in to, so I am thinking of going for a roller shutter. Aluroll (?) have been recommended to me, and they do a really nice golden oak powdered coated finish (laminate finish is too expensive) which uses a somfy motor. I'm having a golden oak finish applied to the brickwork so it all blends which bumps the price up so I'm effectively looking at £2k for a double roller door, golden oak finish (extra cost), with some minor timberwork (extra cost), matching finish on brickwork and additional hard opening button inside the garage (again, extra).

A company called BGID (Birmingham Garage & Industrial Doors Ltd) have been recommended to me - the mainly do commercial installs up and down the country but do domestic as well.

Thoughts on this? I'm in the Birmingham area if it makes any difference.

I've just ordered (10 mins ago!) 2 SWS securoglide doors which having done loads of research seem to be the best that you can get, also not as expensive as you'd think.

I would recommend you get a section of the material and try and give it a bend. We had aluminium shutters over the windows for a golf shop. They went though it by just bending them and pulling out of the runners – totally not suitable for the job. We have now replaced with a steel shutter which is much stronger (still powder coated white). We used black country doors who were great.

We ordered from here http://www.auto-roll.com/ great value and very happy with the product. Called them and it all worked out cheaper then ordering online.

Took morning to fit and works a treat...

They are local to me and not a million miles from you. Local retailer covers nationally if you want to go and see samples. http://www.arridgegaragedoors.co.uk/

Thanks for the feedback all. Birkdale garage doors have now also been pointed out to me.
