pool table - dedicated versus multitable ? Any experts?
Discussion
They are ok at best, the company I work for sells pool tables amongst other things and the multi-play tables are average at all the things they do.
Personally you would be much better getting a dedicated slate bed pool table though, they play 100 times nicer and if you have people round they look better, and last much longer.
Air hockey tables are all a bit pants until you start to get into the bigger stuff that's normally at least £6-700. And with regards to a table tennis table, you'd be surprised how cheap and alright they can be, you can get an alright knock about table for a couple of hundred.
That liberty table is a table that's quite common and sold by quite a few people, they are also selling it quite cheap! If you do want a multi table, BCE make a few that are good and worth a look. If you want a proper slate table, let me know... they aren't cheap mind for a good one!

That multi table looks great.
The posts from those in the trade are very good but I think realistically, like with many things, they are talking from a different perspective to most who just want to shoot a few games and play other things.
I can think of dozens of analogys but if your nipper enjoys air hockey and table tennis banging on that you have a pro quality pool table won't cut the mustard.

We were also considering thee.....but ours isn't for the kids....and I noticed that these are not proper cloth with nap, but a flatter material.
So for us I have decided to get a "proper" one.
But given your description, I would go multi table: your kid will get years of fun out of it, then when he is older and the table is a bit knocked about, get a real one
Costco also had them for a good price too http://www.costco.co.uk/view/p/mightymast-leisure-...
Please report back on what you get!!
On the space thing....https://www.libertygames.co.uk/faq/answer/pool-table-sizes/ - looks about okay with the 4' cue....

I was going to say this too - get a cheap multi thing now to mess about with your lad, then when he's old enough to realise that a reduced size table tennis or air hockey doesn't quite cut it then change it for a proper pool table at which point he'll be tall enough to play it properly with you. You'll also be able to decide if the room is really big enough - playing pool "properly" will become very frustrating if you haven't got decent cue space all round it.
I have pretty much the same 7ft multi table purchased from Liberty games.
It's not bad at either, though would say it's marginally better as an air hockey table. The pool table is difficult to get level and the balls tend to wander on low speed shots.
As a toy for my 8 year old he thinks it's great and loves it. For grown ups it would be a dedicated slate bed pool table for me.
Be aware that the table comes from a company called Mightymast Leisure, and communication was poor at best though I suspect most of the problem stemmed from the distribution company they used for Scotland. In all it took 6 attempted deliveries each time they either showed up a different day they'd agreed to, or it was delivered by a single man delivery truck (it weighs 100Kg+). No good when I was away working.
After 5 weeks and about 2000miles travelled they finally sent a 2 man delivery truck, and arrived when promised!

Tonker - my children have had a multi at their Mums for the past three years - they are now 13 and 10 - they both still love it. It wont make either of them the next Ronnie O'Sullivan or similar for the other games, but does the trick.

ha!
I would still maintain that a 4 year old would be happy playing a range of games on a shonky multi-table for a few years. Save the proper slate one for when he is 5 or more years older. IF you have managed to keep the multi table in good nick, you'll flog it.....you may even have moved house and have more space.....and he will be better placed to not wreck a nice slate table ;-)
That said, I have just come into a slate table for a good price to go in our sunroom (due to finish being built soon), so I am feeling smug
