Hi,

wasn/t sure how to title this. Basically when I lived in France most people have a mail box ( like this ). All of the french postal service have a 'master' key which can unlock these to put in parcels and letters etc. Does the Uk have anything equivalent?

The reason I ask, is we've just put some gates on the house so delivery people can no long hide parcels etc around the back when they deliver plus the postman can't post the letters. I was thinking about making or buying a very large box to put on the outside wall. Now I could make one without a lock and hope nothing ever gets nicked (crime rate is very low here) but was just wondering if there was a standard Uk postal lock I could use?

I've never heard of one here, I know the US has something similar.

I can't imagine its much use though, surely anyone nicking mail from boxes already has a copy. Might as well get a big box that doesn't lock, and hope that out of sight out of mind works.

There are delivery boxes like this available that let the delivery person lock it after the delivery.

I get large items regularly and bought a large plastic "garden store" type box and fitted a padlock that's identical to the one in the first link above.

The only problem is if you get two large deliveries in a day or get a new postie who doesn't know the system.

Locked box with a key to local Royal Mail office?
I am a postie.
When I leave in the morning I have a set of keys for my route.
Master keys for blocks of flats, and keys for a few customers' sheds, outbuildings etc.
