Hi all, I need a breaker bar as I managed to break the drive section 1/2" (adapter to 3/4") a while ago. This was a 3ft bar but I used a length of scaffolding pole to gain some extra leverage.

I'm looking for at least a 5ft bar any links?

Normal ratchet and a scaffold tube may be better value.

True, but I'm removing a nut which is torqued to 230ft/lb I want to invest in a decent bit of kit

You'll break a 3/4 inch breaker bar as well with that kind of abuse. Use the T bar before you hurt yourself.

Do I need a parrot or has sarcasm not travelled over the internet very well?

Stupid advice.

T-Bar is most sensible, or Halfords do a 3/4 inch breaker bar for £25

The T bar will bend, you will always break the breaker bar. Not used mine for years, but the T Bar manages to tighten and loosen the 36mm wheel nuts on my tractor (that the CP impact gun can't budge) with 5 feet of bar and me swinging on it.

The only one I've seen that long was a snap on.

I split a socket and snapped the end on my breaker bar trying to undo the hub nut on my mx5. What's a t bar? I think I can feel a tool purchase coming on biggrin

Maybe I need a whoosh-parrot too. What's wrong with that bar plus a pipe / scaffold of some sort? - it will do the job, for a rather cheap price if you ask me.

It will break. Doesn't matter if it is a short one like that or a fandango Snap On bar with 9 feet of handle, then end is the same and it will break.

What is this nut doing?

Old Beetle rear hubs are held together with a 36mm nut done up to something daft, iirc it was about 250lb-ft then turn to align next splitpin hole with castellation redface

Since you had to undo this sodding nut to get at the rear brakes, this became a real chore to undo. I soon found out that new nuts were only £3 and drums about a tenner, so chose to drill 2 x 3mm holes side by side axially through the nut on one side (hss bit, risking going through the nut into the drum behind) after which a light tap with hammer and cold chisel and the thing sprang helpfully out of the way with no damage to anything. Replace with new

Seriously - look at more invasive options!

Not that many modern cars have a LH thread on one side.
All the cars I've ever worked on have normal thread both sides.

I suspect he's trying to remove the centre locks on a Porsche, iirc they're handed.
