Mrs Cjelli and the kids have talked of clubbing together to buy me a cordless drill for Father's Day. This is with a pending shed build project in mind that I've been twining about starting for ages.

As I'm only worth so much, which is the best cordless drill for my needs with a budget of about £70? I'm looking at drilling into brick to secure the shed roof into an existing area between three brick walls, then all the wood related shenanigans like screwing in joist hangers, noggins and whatever.

Having had a quick google round, I quite like the idea of the ryobi one+ stuff, as I could then get a bare grass strimmer later. Is it any good?

Anyway, budget is non flexible I've been told, so let's not get carried away with hilti sds mega weapons.

Over to the expert tools of PH.

I've got one of these - Bosch PSB 1800 LI-2 Cordless Lithium-Ion Hammer Drill Driver Featuring Syneon Chip (2 x 18 V Batteries, 1.5 A) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00L3XK06C/ref=cm_sw_r... It's great for general DIY around the house. Seems to be well buil too...

I'd agree with that.
Erbauer is a quality make (the woman at our local Screwfix told me they are made by Makita and branded as Erbauer just for Screwfix, don't know if that's true but they are certainly good quality).
When buying a drill, the amperage is more important than anything else, most pro tools are either 3Ah or 4Ah, most diy are 1.3Ah, this one is 2Ah, so a good compromise between price and quality.
It's got LI-ION batteries, the best option at the moment, and 2 of them so you can work all day, charging one while the other is working.

Yeah i use the erbauer cordless at work every day, it actually feels like a drill worth double the money, nice and light, powerful and batteries are compact.

I have this one. It easily exceeds my expectations. I do not do a lot of DIY so a drill that has plenty of power, when I need it was important. It can drill in blocks and is light enough to be a power driver.

In the end, we ordered a Bosch, and it's just arrived.

Feels like a well put together thing, need to get some wood ordered!

Quick question, is there a set of bits (drill and screwdriver) made specially to fit that space in the left hand side of the case?

The Bosch one is a good bit of kit. Batteries are cheap and easy to find. I recommend getting the torch that goes with it as well.

I'm almost certain Erbauer aren't made by makita, i know they used to be made by worx, and I'm pretty sure they still are

I looked at the erbauer drill, and really wanted to like it, but too many reviews on screwfix spoke of fires/smoke, so I just couldn't risk it.

Found myself in screwfix on an unrelated matter this week, and decided I couldn't wait any longer for some new drill bits and screwdriver bots to go with my new drill.

So bought this, http://www.screwfix.com/p/dewalt-combination-drill...

No idea what half of its for, certainly no idea why there are a hundred Philips head bits in a little box.

Looks good though.

Where did you get the drill from at your price, or did the budget stretch?

Don't rate Titan at all. Bought a few products and both packed in after two or three uses of a few hours each.

Local Screwfix replaced them without issue and then i just sold them on. The manager wasn't at all surprised it packed in so even staff think they're a piece of st.

After looking at the various ranges at b&q, I came to the conclusion that an extra £20 was required, so a bit of budget creep crept in. The Bosch stuff just felt better put together than the budget makes like macallister etc.

Because the best/easiest screws to drive in are Philips, and having a bit that fits well into the head of the screw makes it easier again. And they will often sit on the end of the bit by themselves before you start, too. So they're expecting you to throw away each bit when it starts to wear.

I'm not a flag waver for titan stuff I promise but when all my expensive makita clobber got nicked I turned to titan to source some cheap drills and what not to keep me going. I have the 2.5kg sds, 5kg sds, hoover, 2 grinders and a tile cutter and all have been utterly faultless despite being used heavily for the guts of a year. I also have 2 erbauer cordless drivers, an impact driver and multi cutter and not had any need to upgrade back to premium versions yet.

Maybe I'm lucky but I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that they are st.
