Fly tipping help
Discussion
Does anyone know much about fly tipping?
We rent a garage in a small block which belongs to a local association. The first time someone fly-tipped there, they sent out a maintenance bloke same day to clear up. The second time, they hadn't done the job after a month and were pretty snotty about it, saying that it's the tenants' job to clear it up and not theirs. (There's a clause in the rental agreement to this effect.) They cleared it in the end, but they whinged about it.
Now presumably the same barstewards have been back with yet more fridges. The council, understandably, won't touch it, and even if I were to pay to have them remove it, I'd have to lug the whole lot up the road to our house anyway! Which isn't going to happen.
It would be logical for the management company to bill all the tenants jointly for removing the fridges if they must bill anyone, but they wouldn't entertain that idea last time I spoke to them. Is there any way of persuading them to remove the rubbish? I don't mind paying a bit towards expenses, but I don't want to pay the entire bill because ours isn't the only garage in the block and I don't see why it should be our personal responsibility.
Any good ideas? Serious ones, I mean. Nuking the fridges from orbit, or any other solutions involving fire, are not an option because I like my car and I don't want it incinerated!

Good idea to bill all the tenants.
Consider installing decent CCTV (about £300 in Costco) to catch the scrotes and maybe investigate a gate (if possible)?
I can't - the authority that owns the land refuses to do anything proactive to stop it. I have CCTV here, but it doesn't cover that part of the road. Consider installing decent CCTV (about £300 in Costco) to catch the scrotes and maybe investigate a gate (if possible)?
I might suggest it to them again, though. Thanks

Not sure where you are but ask the local scrap dealer/pie key to pick it up if it's fridge/freezers they will collect them.
Now there's a thought! How do I get in touch with 3.14-keys? There were some on the field down the road the other day, but they were turfed out PDQ. I'll try the scrappie first!ApOrbital said:
Saw some 3.14-keys the other day in a van spoke to them and told them where loads of white goods and been dumped they said cheers, went to said place the next day it had all gone.

Weird, they will not touch fridges and freezers round here because scrapyards won't take them. They snip the pipes and take the motors/tanks and leave them.ApOrbital said:
Well these took the lot no messing about.
It's fridge gases that caused the hole in the ozone layer. All fridges need to have the gas extracted from them. That's why scrap yards don't take them. As for our travelling friends, they just cut the pipes and let it go, Typical of them.

Costco and their like don't sell decent CCTV. All the kits you see use fixed lens wide angle cameras which spread the pixels too far apart to allow any meaningful detail capture moving away from the camera.Fly tipping requires clear identification of vehicle reg numbers and the people.

Good news - a local scrappie came out and picked up the offending items.
Bad news - it cost me 40 quid (reduced from 60 after I gave the bloke the best girlie sad face I could muster
).
Going to speak to the managing agents now and see if they'll fit a gate or bollards or something. Anything so that the fly tippers have to leave their rubbish on the road so the council has to come and get it!

tell the managing agents you will be giving notice cos of flytipping. If noone rents cos of flytipping, they will do something about it. Why do you need to keep that particular garage?
The trouble is that I'm the only person who keeps a car there, and my car is nearest to the corner where the flytippers leave their crud so it doesn't really affect the other tenants. The other garages are all used by local traders for storage. The management company has at least three empty units in a block of 10 or so, but they don't seem too bothered about the empty ones. There have been no efforts to market them or anything. This block is nearest to the house. They have another block further up the road, but those are spread over two levels and while the bottom level is gated, the top level is open - so if anyone flytips there, they block the gates and we still have a problem with flytipping. Not to mention the general lack of maintenance, so I'm not sure I'd want to take a garage on the lower level in case someone with something heavy comes through the roof of my garage. (I know it's unlikely, but all the same!
) I could - and used to - keep the car in my own garage at the house, but the garage is full of stuff and it's not really convenient, because I have to shuffle cars to get the garaged car out. Which means that the garaged car never gets used.
I dunno. I think longer-term I'll have to bring the car back up to the house - I don't want to get rid of the car and it needs to be under cover, really. It's handy not having the car taking up the space here, but if the worst comes to the worst I could always leave it on the drive I suppose.
I could always shift our stuff into the rented garage and move the car back into the house garage, but the rented garage isn't watertight... Oh well. I'll give it some more thought. There has to be a solution. I suppose I could get a carport built if the worst came to the worst!

Round my way the local council have decided to implement hefty charges to drop stuff at the local tip. As a result fly tipping has gone through the roof who could have predicted that?
You have a point it has encouraged fly tipping.Where my daughter lives they have the same problem. All kinds of rubbish dumped in the ten foot.Everything was cleared a few years ago they all paid to have skip and the houseowners cleared the rubbish.
A steel gate needs fixing on either side of the ten foot. The council won't entertain it and some owners won't pay towards the cost.Rubbish is back again.
