Just getting a quote from Magnets. How do they compare in the market price and quality?

they charged my gma 17k the cabinets are nice but not worth the massive amounts and the installer has made a right hash of it tbh

just google magnet kitchen reviews and its usually pretty poor service, and id agree with that too

My mate is in the process of suing them as they destroyed most of his ground floor. Obviously that was down to the terrible fitter but the after service since from the company has been appalling. I would strongly advise against based on that.

We've got one (Magnet Trade) as it was our builders preferred supplier. Standard stuff really, nice solid carcasses and a good selection of doors available. The builder fitted it and we were very pleased with the outcome. We also used Magnet for the granite worktops and the fitters were excellent. We did have a quote for appliances from them and it was comparable to the Internet but in the end they didn't stock quite what we were after so we sourced the appliances ourselves.

Whilst I could have shopped around as we wanted our builder to fit it then it was easier to use Magnet as he had a good relationship with them, quick to slag off other kitchens (especially Ikea) so maybe he got a cut of the price or something but it seemed reasonable at the time.

We usually fit what the client wants, we have accounts at the main kitchen suppliers. Our carpenters have had problem fitting magnets kitchens in the past. Make sure you get a decent discount and ensure you employ your own fitter. One who is recommended (they will usually be very busy but the kitchen could take 6 weeks to come).

If you want stone tops get them from an independent supplier, they will be cheaper and offer the same service.

Where are you located? I may be able to suggest a few companies.

Just to add a company such as this http://www.umbermaster.co.uk/ will offer a better quality for similar magnet retail price. The fitters they use would also be superior to magnet fitters. I obviously have no ties to that company have used them and been 100% satisfied with their service, we even used their fitters.

I have probably bought about 40 kitchens from Magnet trade and always spec them, if you put good worktops and handles on they work very well.

Have a look at the interior pictures of Kirstie Allsopps holiday rental Meadowgate House or look at the flats at Exeter Castle, all magnet kitchens

I have a blue-ish colour magnet asteral kitchen in my place. the rrps of the units are insane and I ended up getting an average of an 80pc discount after a bit of hard work, but even after that the units still cost me about 6 grand. I think it was a reasonable deal as these cabinets have a sort of acrylic front to them and look very cool with the silver handles magnet supplied with them.

I got my own bloke in to install it and do the flooring which was about half of what magnet wanted.

overall very pleased and would use again

just negotiate hard and don't be sucked in by, 'offer ends tomorrow' type talk.

They quoted me 18k, then applied their latest offer to get it down to 12k. I got them down to 8k in the end. They really didnt want me to leave the showroom without buying. I didnt go with them in the end however.

they also wanted 2k to fit. I asked how many people would fit it. They said 1 guy, about 3 days.

In the end, the company i used charged 1k for fitting. only took him 2 days though, as carcasses came assembled.

I had my kitchen done a good few years ago now - about 7 or 8 I think - and my fitter recommended them as good quality / easy to fit. They still look like new.
I did have a problem about 6 months after the kitchen was done where the bottom of the doors blistered - but Magnet replaced them all immediately with no fuss.

I got them at trade price - originally, it was intended that my fitter would get them on his trade account but they simply sold them to me at trade price for some reason.

The one thing I would say : The appliances are dreadful. The Candy built in oven / hob I got was useless, and broke fairly quickly anyway. Avoid them and get decent stuff fitted with the units.

I had them round to do a quote for a galley kitchen in my old flat. I was renovating the place top to bottom so it was a bit of a shell when he came round. He basically slagged of my flat and said that magnet were like Aston Martins and I should be looking for a Mondeo. He took some measurements and never called back. I ended up getting a B & Q kitchen and a local fitter did the rest.
He did leave behind a nice Stanley tape measure though.

I used to like Magnet (& Southern) kitchens as the carcass had a plastic injected weld, they were rock solid and better than most other trade kitchens. They now just use the same method as everyone else so are no better or no worse than say Howdens/Benchmarx. I rarely use them now as Howdens do a better range of designs and colours.

They are the same as 90% of the others.

But they insit on using a god awful silver edging on the base units which rules them out IMO

Howdens tend to be cheaper or DIY kitchens are cheaper AND better.

Unless they have changed, magnet end panels used to be the same depth as the unit, not the unit + door + a bit more.

That's rules them out for me straight away.
