So here (Warwickshire) we have 5 receptacles per household

Black wheelie bin....General
Green wheelie bin....Compost
Red box..............Bottles and tins
Bag..................Cardboard and plastic
Bag..................Paper

Recyclers tend to stick bags into box then fling the box somewhere inconvenient (like the middle of the drive or pavement)

This week found the box a bit further down the road (not unusual) but no bags in it.
So phone council, may we have 2 more bags please, that'll be a fiver thanks..........

I'm a good citizen so I'll continue to recycle, but feel like sticking everything into landfill.

I had a black box for newspapers that sat inside my blue bin. The lazy sts tipped the box in the back of the truck, and it was never seen again.

And then they empty in the same lorry as the household waste.

Tell the council that the actions of their agents led to the loss of your bags, and that you expect them to make good your loss.

We don't even see 90% of the packaging that gets used in the supply chain, yet still we dutifully wash and separate the remaining 10%. And if it does go to China it'll probably be land-filled anyway. The whole thing is a sham, just making the public feel "part of the solution" - we can't make much impact.

We have at present:
Grey bin general, and it's too fking small at 180 litres
Green bin green/food waste 240 litre
3 black boxes Paper/card
Glass
Plastics & cans

Now they want another fking bin for food waste and to charge to remove the green waste!

Pissed off with the sheer amount of fking plastic bins littering my property. Bloody eyesore.

What I hate is when you go to the local "recycling centre" and they stuff all the plastic garden furniture in the general waste that goes to landfill.

Surely if the council can recycle yogurt pots - they must be able to recycle a plastic garden chair or table?

Anything paper or cardboard gets turned into bricks and put on the log burner at my house.

West Berks certainly collect 'hard plastics' for recycling at their recycling centres.

But they don't recycle yoghurt pots hehe

I seem to have ended up with a couple of spares I think so might be able to help. Will have to check once its light and I can see outside. Also, you do know you can mix the plastic and cardboard in the bags, just fill one up with mixed stuff until its full then use the second? They dont have to be separate.

I do wonder why councils make recycling such an expensive (to them at the very least) inconvenience to people, when it could be so simple. When I moved to Ashford in Kent around six years ago, there was no recycling, all we did was leave the bin bags on the road and the bin men would come and take them away (and do a reasonable job of clearing up the contents when animals and birds ripped them open overnight). Soon after though they decided to get with modern times and provide wheelie bins. A black one for general waste and a green one for recycling - to which you put all types into. (Brown bins could be bought for garden waste but you needed to pay a yearly subscription for this, which is fair enough).

Like many here though my mum (Oxfordshire) has two wheelie bins for different types of waste, and at least three black boxes for glass, paper, plastics etc. It all seems needlessly complicated to me, and although it isn't really a hardship to sort the recycling out herself, I can see many people being put off or not being bothered to do that, so they become less interested in recycling.

I have lost patience with the whole recycle it regime. Our local recycle centre seems to want to charge for more and more items. Our old broken bathroom tiles for example. we had about half ton of them Cost to me for recyling them was colossal, £2.50 per shoing bag full!!! I chucked them in lur general waste, about four shopping bags a time

We have a black bin for general waste, which gets collected once a week and a blue bin for recycling (once a fortnight). The blue bin takes all the usual paper, glass, plastic, metal etc. I could opt for a green bin as well if I wanted for garden waste. All very efficient, as is the processing centre that it's taken to a few miles away. I visited it on an open day a few years ago and was impressed with how well thought out the process was - why can't all councils be persuaded/forced to adopt similar methods?

My local council have made it quite easy, so I do my best to recycle.

The recycled waste has a value, so I'm not sure why some of the cheeky buggers want to charge people when the tipping charge is about £110/tonne that people have already paid for.

Just watching the East Midlands news, Derbyshire are now going to charge £3 per bag for building type waste at the tips.

Bring on a huge increase in fly tipping in Derbyshire. banghead

The whole thing is of course just one big scam. Everything that we throw away came from somewhere so why not just chuck rubbish back in the holes that were dug to produce it?

Tried this, even the council girl sounded embarrassed, admitted she'd had to pay as well. Suggested we could write in to complain, but unlikely to get anywhere.

Not quite as simple as just chucking it back in the ground, besides, most land fill is full now. It makes sense to my small mind to reuse as much as we can.

It makes sense to me too, it doesn't make sense to charge me 50 quid then throw it in the same hole as the rest of it.

Er, what?

That comment is so stupid that I cannot understand how you are even capable of reading, let alone using a keyboard.
