I'm after a hinge. I didn't realise how hard it would be to find one like this but I've scoured various sites websites, eBay and Google images but have yet to see anything like what I want.

Drew this quickly on my phone.

Basically, I want a hinge that will hold two boards together but have a raised pivot point so that I can fold the boards over each other but allow clearance for what it on the boards, rather than them fold over and sit flat together.

I know I could get the same result using some blocks to raise a normal hinge off of the board the desired ammount but surely, a hinge like this exists?

Perhaps I'm missing something.

Why not use a conventional hinge with fixings in the end of the boards rather than the back face ?

Or rebated into the front face ?

Normal hinge, a pair of right angle brackets, and some rivets?

I think a parliament hinge is what your looking for.

Thanks for the replys.

I could use a normal hinge and fix it to the end faces but the boards are only 12mm thick so not going to give a very good surface to drill into. Ideally they need to be mounted on the top face bridging the gap.

I could use angle brackets etc but as in my original post, I would have thought a hinge like this would exist. I could make the desired effect using wooden blocks but I would prefer a tidy hinge that did it all.

Parliament hinges appear to be flat looking at Google

You might get somewhere with a cranked hinge especially if you pulled the pin and reversed half of it, though you would need to find one where this would work without clashing.

Found it!!

'Full wrap around hinge', normally you fix them to the back of a pair of doors but are exactly what you want.

You could order some un-drilled back flap hinges, then drill and bend them to your own requirements

Thanks for the help!

I'm still struggling to find what I need, at least in the UK anyway. Those links to the American sites are pretty much exactly what I need. Can't seem to find anything else using any of the terms suggested here or using what they are called in America...

Frustrating. I think a trip to b&q might be in order to see if I can spot anything suitable on the shelves.

You could something like these and cut, bend and drill them to whatever length you want.

I think the term offset hinge will likely get you the best result.
Ive seen exactly the type of hinge you drew in the past.

A quick google brought this up. Might not be perfect but along the right lines
