Cheap wall protection for dart board
Discussion
Any good ideas for protecting a wall from stray darts? We're renting the place we live in, so nothing that couldn't be removed easily when we eventually move on, or would damage the walls when mounting. Something relatively cheap and easy to implement as well as not looking too shabby.
We already have one of the surrounds (like a ring that goes on the outside of the board) for the dartboard, but unfortunately we underestimated just how bad of an aim we would be, and so even this isn't enough to catch all of the darts with our atrocious skill levels, and we already have about 10 holes in the wall which will need to be patched up. We don't want it to get any worse!
Any ideas are graciously received. At the moment, my first thought was prop a big board up against the wall or perhaps some carpet tiles or similar could be somehow velcro'd to the wall but I've no idea whether this would work.
I know the obvious answer is to get better at darts but until then....

I would either put rubber suckers on the end of your darts or take up snooker.
I had the same problem many years ago when I thought I could become a darts player. I discovered you can either play darts or you can't. Practise doesn't make you any better, only more holes in the wall. Cork wall tiles are a good idea.

I wanted a pool table really but didn't have room (it's a man cave). I have no ambitions of becoming a good player is just a bit of fun. Carpet bowls, that actually sounds like a decent idea I had the same problem many years ago when I thought I could become a darts player. I discovered you can either play darts or you can't. Oddly enough I am much better when drunk than sober? My arms simply don't do what my brain tells them when I'm sober.

I think that's pretty common for us who can't play very well, we don't have any hand/eye coordination even when sober, and we feel less inhibited when drunk.
I only took up carpet bowls last September and I am hooked, much more enjoyable than darts ever was

Edited to add the most humiliating thing for me was that my now ex wife was a much better darts player than I ever was and even played for the mens team in our local. I should have divorced her sooner.

Carpet bowls does sound genuinely interesting mind, how much space do you need, my room is quite long (not wide enough for the pool table I originally wanted though). To give an idea I have more than enough space to be 8ft away from the dartboard and am probably still only half way into the room.

I've just tried a few more, sober... and again, frustratingly, frighteningly bad! Already starting to wonder if it was a bit of a bad idea!

I play for our village team in the village hall. The mat is 30ft long by 6ft wide with a 2ft wooden disc in the middle, so you could feasibly fit one in a large room. Be warned though it is addictive, and the good thing about it is the fact that men and women of all ages and physical condition can play equally in mixed teams.Carpet bowls does sound genuinely interesting mind, how much space do you need, my room is quite long (not wide enough for the pool table I originally wanted though). I am sounding like an old duffer now

Strangely I came to this thread via a search for a dart board backing......
I don't know how to do links, my son never taught me that bit, but if you google English Carpet Bowls Association you will find out all you need to know.Strangely I came to this thread via a search for a dart board backing......
