We've recently been informed that a third bin is incoming to separate waste even further. I travel to lots of different towns with work so know this is nothing new.
Thing is why are people so lazy/oblivious/lacking in pride that they just leave 'em all over the place.
I get it's difficult in terraced houses or with tricky access round the back. But even on streets with drives and side access they still get left on front gardens or in fact just where the bin men put them. Who wants to look out of their front window at a scruffy bin? Or walk round it every time they go outside? Drives me mad.

Yep it's easier to open the door and throw your rubbish straight in rather than walk to where the bin is hiding but are folk really that idle? Yep they obviously are.

On my cul de sac it seems the worst offenders are the tenants. So if you don't own it's ok to be a tramp.

Can't wait for the new ones to landfrown

Does anyone actually even segregate their waste?

I just chuck everything straight into the black bin smile

It wouldnt surprise me if all the “recyclables” just get dumped into landfill anyway.....

I'm about to get rid of a stupidly tall and thick hedge at the front of my house. I might build a deck with a fence round it for the bins, so only the neighbours get to see their full glory!

I've never had an issue putting the correct waste in the correct bins. It's not a difficult task to do.

We have three bins. One for landfill, one for food and gardening waste and one for everything to be recycled.

The system works very well and I think everyone is happy to do it in my street.

Yep

My Brother has same issue. Nice area in Poulton (semi posher than Blackpool near Blackpool area) One of the houses in their street ahsa just gone rented . 3 bins.
Tennant leaves the bin at the designated collecton point at end of rear alley. However never takes it back in

She had a shock when one of the more forthright residents fed up of it being blown over and blocking the alley that leads to his garage took it back for her. she was even more shocked when the next time it happened he took it back and told her to get off her lazy arse as next time it was blocking the alley he would put it through her front window

She takes it in now

With 3 kids and bi weekly emptying nappies fill a huge % of be black bin.

We recycle as much as we physically but still have a maxed black bin. New rules are the black bin lid must be closed or they do not take it.... so it’s a nice chore to squash everything down ... explodes nappies do happen and are vile

On anther note its interesting to see how things are different in some areas
For example said brother can not put a margarine tub in the plastic recycling bin - we can
He didn't know but was told very politely and nicely by one of the lads who emptied it

Not quite as bad here but we will be getting bin inspectors (after our many types of bags instead of bins we have to use). The local gas and air shop, loosely called a council, said that the cost for the inspectors is not coming out the council tax. They will be raising their costs from fines.

What can go wrong.

Some LA’s will allow you an extra bin for a small fee I think. Ours will charge you £30 if you can prove that you’re recycling as effectively as possible already.

We recycle as much as possible and have a compost bin in the garden. We could probably get away with having our waste bin emptied once every 6-8 weeks but I’m guessing the smell would be a bit much. If you’ve neighbours nearby without kids maybe they’d let you tip their bin off rather than having to crush stty nappies?

Erm, not just early, they will be checking what is in what coloured bag. Paper in the cardboard.... sucks air in over teeth and ticks off on clip board....

Some of my neighbours have their house/gardens enclosed with 6ft high fences and leave their 3 bins ( black, green for compost and orange for recyclables) outside on the pavement - they don't seem to have a problem with it as everyone does it. It only took one of them to do it, and then all the others thought it was OK to do it too. Perhaps if the council did fine offending properties that would solve the problem.

We have 4 bins - landfill, plastic & cans, garden & food waste, paper and cardboard. The landfill one is half the size of the others.

Some neighbours here have so much landfill waste (they have babies in the house, large families etc) that they half fill, for example, the paper/cardboard bin with landfill waste and then stick paper/cardboard in the top half to cover the landfill stuff. Then they boast about it. rolleyes They do the same with the plastic/cans and the garden/food bins.

North Lincolnshire we have,

Green wheelie bin for general waste landfill/etc
Red wheelie bin for cardboard and plastic
Brown wheelie bin for garden waste
Blue box for paper
Green box for cans and glass

Then at my digs in London everything goes in the same bin same as the digs I've just moved from in Essex.
