As a kid my parents would get all this stuff from the local independent hardware shop.

Sink draining rack, plastic clothes basket, a good mop and bucket, loo brush. Brands like; Brabantia, Vileda, Rubbermaid, that sort of thing. Items that first and foremost work.

A big Tescos had most of it but all really low grade, ditto Wilkos. John Lewis is expensive and looks nice, but is not nesserally any better quality.

In parts I've resorted to mail order from janitorial supplies or the like bit that's not ideal I terms of seeing it before you buy and postage on large items gets silly.

Thoughts welcome. On the Wirral (Liverpool) is relevant.

Builders merchants? Our local one is quite good for this sort of thing. Good old fashioned wooden and bristle scrubbing brushes, mops, brooms in varying sizes.
We get Vileda stuff from Sainsburys and refills from Amazon.

Everything is hit and miss really

Lakeland is usually good

We purchased a house that was built by the previous owner in 1974 and then he died, we inherited from him the entire contents

Basically everything in there is British made and will last forever- unfortunately it doesn’t look very nice

Everything we replace looks a bit better but is just rubbish

Builders merchants is a good shout, ditto Lakeland although the nearest is 40mins away.

Yes you can get it all from Amazon but it's just not the same experience as a shop.

You are asking about a loo brush and a draining board. What do you do with those in a shop that is such an experience?

See a range of them first hand, pick it up and have a feel of it, see if the brush is one part or as most seem to be now three bits clipped together so the ruddy lots falls to bits on you the moment you use it with an vigour!
We bought a draining board from Sainsbury's and got it home to find it does hold plates. The slots are vertical rather than inclined so they just flop forwards and lie almost flat, tried all the different types we have, if that had been mail order it would have been all the faff of posting it back.

It's just nice to see what your getting first. Especially when you are buying a whole house full of stuff so reading half a dozen reviews just isn't practical.

I'd go to Ikea if I really needed to touch it first.

I’d go to Ikea if I had a gun pointed to my head.

Yes, 49p for a bog brush, and mine is still going strong after 8 years.

Manufacturing do some very nice stuff. Expensive, but made the way things used to be, and in most cases repairable and built to last.

Try Charlie’s, available on line and your nearest shop is in Queenferry, N Wales.

https://www.charliesdirect.co.uk/

They only sell decent quality brands, started as a country supply store in mid-Wales years ago, so they also sell horse and livestock stuff as well!
