We live on a country lane amongst a small cluster of houses - very nice area and normally extremely quiet. So quiet you can hear owls hooting, mice farting - that sort of quiet.

Ours is a detached house from the neighbours in question. We generally get on with them but I'm becoming increasingly henpecked by some noise they make.

Now don't get me wrong, we are not talking excessively loud, it's like tonight for example - they have guests over and they are in their back garden, having a drink and theres a bit of music in the background. Nothing heavy or dancy - but I can hear it from inside - feint but audible.

Every now and then I can hear the woman shrieking with laughter as she glugs down more and more vino.

There's no swearing or shouting - they are just there in the background, enjoying themselves socially I guess. I think I'm tuned into it, listening for it of you like rather than it being obtrusive.

I've obviously discussed with my wife who feels that it can be annoying but doesn't really see an issue. She's currently fast asleep smile

I guess the said noise is more noticeable as there is no other noise. No cars/traffic hum etc.

Sooo I'm getting all wound up over something minor and I don't know why to be honest.

I'm no shrinking violet either and have absolutely no issues collaring them about it - but that's my problem. I can be a bit of a bull in a china shop sometimes. I'll get all steamed up and end up coming across a bit y. I'm aware of this and that's why I'm writing this thread up to garner advice.

I'm sure being PH that the answers will consist of MTFU, stop being a misery, I sound like a etc etc. Maybe I am.

I jut wondered what some of the more balanced PH gentile would do? Just let it slide? Say something then next time I see them?

If so what would you say to tactfully address it?

I wouldn't care less myself. It's the sound of summer. If they were mixing on their decks in the garden 24/7 that would be a different matter.

If you came to my door I’d tell you where to go. They are in their own house not attached to yours, go inside and put the tv on or some music yourself.

They are having probably once in a blue moon a few friends around and a few drinks, live and let live.

This pretty much - it's normal, and also nice they can enjoy the outdoors while the weather lasts.

If they were playing loud music post midnight every weekend then it's time to have a word.

But talking laughing and drinking in their back garden? I think it's fair enough to do that 24/7.

I would say you shouldn't address it all.

If they occasionally make a bit of noise and it is annoying you, turn your TV up, put some music on etc.

I also live in a very quite place and all the neighbours are very quiet (a cluster of six houses in the middle of nowhere) On the odd occasion that someone does make a noise it comes as a bit of a shock and is very hard to ignore!

I actually heard the newest neighbours playing music the other day with their patio doors open! Obviously they didn't get the memo hehe

My elderly uncle, living in a terrace, had a neighbour whose dog barked fairly incessantly when they were out. The neighbour on the other side of the doggie household, came around to see my uncle, raging about the noise of the dog.
"Doesn't it bother you?" Asked the ranting neighbour
"No" replied Uncle, much to the neighbours amazement, " Because I don't listen to it"

I think you perhaps need to take a leaf out of my Uncle's book .

Chavs have upgraded to Prosecco and Cava. For the record they still make Lambrini, along with Hooch and numerous other "tart fuels" on the same shelf.

I don' like noise but it sounds like you're being oversensitive. Put some headphones on and listen to music for half hour or something.

? You should have popped over earlier in the evening with a crate and some bottles invited yourself in and had a good time. The next time they had a party you would have been invited(suspect this is why you are really annoyed?) and it wouldn't matter how much noise they make.

I'll swap neighbours.

Mine have five kids who only know how to shout. I know when it's school dropping off time without looking at my watch because you get 'will you get in the fking car' as loud as possible.

Yes. You're being way too sensitive.

I can hear it when my neighbours have a piss. In fact I write this at almost midnight, sat on my balcony listening to the roar of the busiest road in the city. I'd actually give my right arm to have a house so quiet that all I can hear is the occasional bit of laughter or some background music.

Put some music on yourself and wind yourself down.
