Hi all.

Weve recently started work on our future property, if there's enough interest I may do a separate build thread when we embark on the actual construction at the end of the year as it will be quite a substantial one.

Anyway we've recently started establishing the boundary, as it's a rural property and it backs onto a forest, post and rail with rabbit netting is the method of choice.

We had to clear about 35ft of trees and vegetation to get to where the boundary lies but stumbled across this concrete marker post, I've tried searching the net but am not having any luck, any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's a marker post normally used for fire hydrants and water/gas pipes - the two numbers are the diameter and distance. Not sure about what the "T M" signifies, though - fire would usually be H. (Something) Main, probably.

Have you just bought the property? There should have been a water/sewage plan as part of the searches?

Thanks for all the help guys.

Whilst this is on the boundary of the property we will be building a stable block within its vicinity - how accurate are they as the foundations would be within 15ft of this marker?

Have a rummage, you should see the access lid for the main within ~8ft.

But don't bet anything on it being EXACTLY where you expect - we had some BT guys installing a new pole a while ago, and they were telling the tale of a water main the previous day being on the opposite side of the road to where their map said. They didn't dig carefully enough.
