Morning All

I’m finally getting around to sorting my man cave and have been looking into flooring solutions.

I can see it’s been covered before on various threads but nothing more recent than 2015.

Ive looked into the epoxy floor solutions but this seems very expensive at 2k + for 25m squared area.

I’ve sealed the concrete pad and painted it black many moons ago. This has now worn off on most of the area. The pad is in good condition although it does have one area of repair that is uneven.

Looking into options and considering the logistics of clearing out the garage I’m leaning towards PVC tiles.

Lots of choice around. Can anyone recommend any manufacturers/suppliers to heap some samples from.

I used Duramat tiles. They are very tough and look good. They repel oil (handy as an MGB sits on them!).

The instructions say you can cut them by hand, but I’d strongly recommend using a circular saw. With that proviso, I’d say they were a doddle to fit.

Dynotile are worth a look. I've got samples from them and they seem good quality. I've yet to push the button and go with one, but it'll be these when I do. There is an online floor designer on their website to. My friend has them, I haven't seen them down, but he is really happy with them and recommended them to me.

I have these:

http://www.bigdug.co.uk/mats-flooring-c402/interlo...

And am reasonably happy with them. A few negative points:

1) They do a decent but not perfect job of repelling spillage - mine have had almost an entire sump full of oil dumped on them and a whilst most of the joints held, a few had some oil seep into them which then very slowly came back out over the next few months, leaving a constant darker coloured line along those joints.

2) My axle stands seem to be fine directly on them but the wheels of my trolley jack will mark them significantly so I use a sheet of ply under it.

3) If I go into the garage in bare feet, I end up with black soles. I'm not sure if this is the colour leaking out of the tiles or just the fact that I don't keep the floor clean enough.

I can't think of anything else negative. I can mop the floor down or hose it out and the water doesn't seem to get into the joints - everything dries out uniformly; they're relatively warm to work on in the winter; they keep noise levels down a bit compared to a concrete floor (my compressor is certainly less deafening with them down). They look like this (sorry about the mess, it's the only picture I have):

I have the Coba tiles from Screwfix.
They do seem to have shot up in price since I bought them last year as they were £25 per sq mtr. They are now £40

Great product, make the garage look great and also ok to lay on when working on the car and not get too cold.

Do you use jacks/axle stands/motorbikes on them? They're pretty cheap at £18/sqm and look OK, but if they're going to dent every time something like that gets done it's not worth it.

We use the 6mm ones from Ecotile - 3600sqft of them in our showroom and workshop. They're very tough. We've had them down for over four years and no complaints.

All the above and no issues, car sits for long periods and no marks when moved, bikes on side and paddock stands the same, jacking and axle stands leave no marks, surface interlocks and liquids stay on surface to wipe off, been down several years and very happy with them.

Fab, thanks. I've ordered a sample (missed that first time!) so I can abuse it too, but it sounds like they're bob on.

At a shade over £330 for a full set to fit my miserable single garage it sounds good enough to me.

I've had a quote from Flexi-Tile previously, though haven't acted on it.

Interestingly they offer a 4mm thick tile and claim that's all that's needed in a domestic garage (they make 7mm and 10mm thick tiles but these are apparently for commercial/industrial use).

Quote is a few months old - so no idea if pricing is current - but it came out at c£23/m2.

If I need to take any time out between leaving the current job and finding something else, then I may well set about the garage floor (along with all the other jobs I have lined up at home).

I've got a ceramic or maybe porcelain tiled garage - it's great. It must have been well/fully bedded as I'm yet to damage it using jacks and axle stands directly onto it. Spillages are easily cleaned, tougher stains like Waxoyl overspray come off with a little brake cleaner.

Those look like nice tool cabinets. Sorry to derail the floor-thread, but where are they from? Nice car too!

The black ones look like they're from costco to me.

I looked at them. They're nicely made and good value but I decided they were just too inefficient in terms of storage space for my needs so I built my own shelves in the end.

Thanks. The neatness appeals to me, but you’re right about shelving. That’s what I currently have and they certainly hold a lot of car and bike stuff.

I have these too. Been down three years now. I have a bike parked on them and a car also, no idents at all. I've also used axle stands and trolley jacks on them and again no idents. I did find however that when jacking higher, the trolley jack did cause them to ruck up a little. They ones nearest my personnel door have also rucked up a little in the heat of the sun. They used to return to flat but now don't seem to.

Mine have been abused, I've spilt a sump full of oil on them, which cleaned up no bother, and I've also done lots of woodwork, painting and ceramic tile cutting on them. They seem to have held up well, I really need to give them a good clean to be fair.

I'd certainly buy them again if I moved, i also found them a good company to deal with, i emailed regarding delivery dates and they told me to wait a few days to order as they were having a sale.
