This product IS a complete scam I take it?
Discussion
Just popped up on my Facebook 'Energy Power Saver". You plug it in to a socket in your house and it claims to do some kind of voodoo that reduces your electricity bill...
I am surprised that FB allows this kind of advertising!

This is the important part for me, feck FB allowing it, FB shouldn't be allowed to allow it.There are so many of these crap and totally untrue ads on social media, it does my head in. Why isn't it properly regulated? Some of the stuff is ridiculous.
Its a small power factor correction device.
28000W capacity
It doesn't regulate anything.
What it does do is use small capacitors to reduce power factor so in theory it 'could' reduce the electricity bill depending on how you are billed (ei in kVA or kW) and what devices you use.
However still better than smart metres that are advertised every 2 seconds which do not reduce you electricity bill.

Facebook also allows the advertising of tools which are worth several hundred pounds for 59 euro.
The latest one is a 3d printer . The manufacturer sells for seven hundred dollars but if you are quick you can buy it via Facebook for sixty pounds with free postage anywhere in the world

Sounds like the Scam that was reported on Ester Rantzen's That's Life back in the late 80s early 90s (remember that?).
It was a small ad in the paper that claimed to be able to reduce your phone bill by half. All you had to do was send a cheque or postal order for £9.99 and you too could half your phone bill. When you sent the money you apparently received a short note saying that the trick to having your phone bill is to use your phone half as much or talk twice as quickly
Just goes to show that all social media does is make it easier for scammer to advertise....

Yes, I particularly like the advert that claims if we all used one we'd save enough power to run 3 cities or whatever it is. How? We had one. Bill didn't change but we got a nice colourful sort of 'rev counter' showing how much oomph we were using. It was vaguely interesting to see how much power stuff used but that was about it. The hot tub was less power hungry than I'd have guessed was the most interesting conclusion. Big GT said:

In practice it would cost you money to run though, as it will have some internal losses. And domestic customers are billed in kW so the PF correction does nothing to your bill.thebraketester said:
