one of those things you tie around the light flex to hold a lamp shade in position on a ceiling light?

Cant find them anywhere online mainly because I can't think what they're called.

That's how I'd expect to fit a shade but I'm not sure you can tie one round the flex redface , so it the answer 'a piece of string'?

Its a piece of thick wire which clips to the cable with prongs on either side that the shade rests on...

The metal framework to keep them centred comes with the light shade itself.

I know what you're trying to describe, the kind of thing my grandmother used to have... haven't seen them being used for decades. smile

IIRC - you could alter the height of the shade by sliding the wire clip thingie up and down the light cable?

ETA - Actually I could just be recalling old lampshades that didn't have the fittings to hang from the light holder itself, but were designed to use a loop in the flex to grip the wire frame of the shade. Their height could be altered independent of the bulb itself that way.
