So I recently moved into a rented place (3 weeks ago), in a very built up area. All fine apart from my immediate neighbour, who has a son who looks late teens, and it appears the parents spend a lot of weekends away.

Cue the music being cranked up very loud, starting at about midday and going often until after 2AM on weekends. Lots of friends around, cars blaring music in the street etc etc etc

It's driving me insane!! all I can hear is thump..thump thump..thump...thump thump on and on. He has zero consideration for anyone around him and the music level is high enough I can hear the base over my telly, own music etc, constant thumping. Its way above a level you could go to sleep with.

Now he's not the sort who looks like he would take kindly to being asked to turn his ridiculously loud music down, and clearly he doesn't care about anyone around him, so what do I do?

I could call 101 I suppose where it goes past midnight, but could be opening myself up for pain if he has been doing this for a while and suddenly I move in and the police are called. I could try going and asking him and his mates to keep it down, but lets be realistic, he's not giving anyone else a second thought so is hardly likely to go "sure mate, sorry for bothering you", and I suppose I could speak to his folks, but again he probably wouldn't like that approach, and honestly he could make my life a lot more miserable than I can make his.

Any ideas (apart from move since I just spent thousands moving in here!!)

I don't believe they are renting but will try and find out.

If they are not renting, then talk to the parents.

They might not be aware.

Depending on IQ they should know that they don’t want a formal dispute if they plan to sell the place in the foreseeable future.

Grow a pair and just go and ask to tone it down a bit ,what’s the worst that’ll happen,he’ll tell you fk off and mind your own business,at least then you know where you stand,or he may apologise and get embarrassed not realising he was annoying you,if the later then (pussy)grab him by the neck and give him a piece of your frustration

So, on weekdays the parents are in residence and the music stops ?

Why don't you get a big sound system and blast the bejesus out of them with a selection of MOR hits
a bit of Celine Dion maybe ?.

Oh dear, you gotta fight fire with fire or be a doormat all your days.

Man maths:

Use as excuse to buy big stereo.
Put sting "fields of gold" on repeat.
Crank to 11.
Go out for the weekend.

By the end of it all he'll need to do is look at a wheat crop ond he'll be shivering, clockwork orange style.

Seriously, go round in a friendly manner and have a word with him, tell him you work shifts and need your sleep. You will either get a pleasant surprise or a black eye. (The black eye will take your mind off the music)

This, play the tool at his own game, someone I know had this years ago, so when he went out he put a speaker up tight against the wall facing the neighbour, stuck one annoying song on loop and cranked it right up.

Never had to endure a noisy neighbour again.

Give it 30 minutes after he's turned his off and do that.

It sounds like keyboard warrior stuff but I have seen this work. A friend did this after his neighbours would come back from their late shift playing loud music from 3am every night. One morning he went out leaving drum and bass on loop for a whole day, while they were sleeping for a night shift.

OPer, I'm sure your neighbours are keen to hear the musical version of Bat Out Of Hell a few times while they sleep. https://youtu.be/CGI4qCgbjh8

Actually, it's quite catchy, so how about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8-WHslFhbU

We had something similar to this, I had brought it up with the parents but it would only stop things for a few weeks, in the end the only thing that stopped it was having a chat with the kid in question. All been OK for months since though!

I was about one night of loud away from doing the loud music retaliation though so the other posters are right too biggrin
