I have a mono tap that is about 10 years old and leaking slightly from where the spout connects to the base. I have bought a seal kit but I cannot get the spout off. There is a grub screw behind that I have removed completely but it will not pull out. I have put some white vinegar in there to dissolve any limescale but it will not budge. Any tips?

Have you tried turning it as you pull. There may be a slot to match to

Is there a hole at the back (grub screw) retaining/holding/keeping the spout in place?

Thanks guys. There is a screw which I have removed and I have tried wiggling it so I am obviously not pulling it hard enough. I found another suggestion to put WD40 on it so will squirt it tonight and have another pull tomorrow. I did think about using a trolley jack but think it might be a recipe for disaster. Tugging it is probably better than jacking it off (ooer matron)

That looks like the Franke tap we had at our last place. If so it does come out but requires a lot of force. As long as you have the grub screw out go for it

We had to replace the spout and seals on ours as well, after about 4 years. Leaked continuously

It's the Abode Atlas but I think they are all pretty similar

Unscrew & remove end of spout and pull out the filter. Spout should then be easy to remove after grub-screw at rear removed.

I recently needed to do this.

Sorry for the stupid question - do you have to turn off the water supply to the tap if you are only removing the spout?

That's so tight I can't budge it either. These taps aren't cheap but their serviceability is hopeless.

Sorry to gatecrash the thread, but I had the exact same problem, solved with brute force. A new seal stopped the leak at the base of the tap, but it is still dripping from the spout - any ideas?

The tap valve (usually ceramic on modern ones) may have worn out. Usually you remove the tap handle and then the valve will unscrew using a spanner (with the water shut off first!). You should be able to find the part number on the manufacturer's website and then find it on ebay/amazon much cheaper than other places.

Southern boiler spares do the ceramic valves. Not cheap but cheaper than buying a new Franke tap. Local plumbing shop recommended them as that’s where they order them from for the same price.

....might be referred to as a cartridge rather than a valve.

Mole grips with some cloth in the jaws for protection - then smash it out with a hammer.

I have a similar tap - get to work with limescale remover in the gap, it's the build up that's making it difficult.

When replacing the O-rings use descaler to thoroughly clean the grooves, and a bit of washing up liquid to lubricate the new seals when replacing. Push down hard to make sure the spout is properly relocated. With new O-rings it will have some resistance to turning when new.

If the spout dribbles, it isn't reseated properly.

I gave it a liberal squirt with WD40 and left it for 20 mins then it came out first tug. Thanks for your answers

Slight hijack of the thread...I'm pretty sure I have the exact same tap. It's leaking from the cold water side. If I press the cold water handle inwards it stops leaking. But let go and it starts again. I've taken the end cap of and tightened up but not too much to thread...made no difference.

Is it going to be a seal or more likely a cartridge? As i say, cold water side only and to stop the drip I push against the small end cap but letting it go means it leaks again.

hope that makes sense to someone smile

It sounds like the cartridge to me. Turn off the water and underneath the lever there is a small allen screw. Undo that and the lever slides off. Then undothe collar by hand (maybe tight) and slide that off. You can then undo the cartridge with a spanner.
