18v Jig Saw comparison
Discussion
I'm looking at adding a few tools to the collection and the next purchase will be a Jig saw. I'm already invested in the Makita 18V stuff so it makes sense to stay with them and buy a bare tool. The saw will be used for general DIY. I have a summerhouse project and a camper conversion planned so it'll need to cut through steel for the windows which I'm sure they'll all do given the correct blade but it gives an idea on usage.
Below is a comparison between three tools they stock in Screwfix. There's no difference in the thickness of wood and metal each of the tools will cut through and the only difference is the cheaper tool has a slower blade speed. Any ideas on why I shouldn't just go for the cheapest or what extra the higher prices tools give?

The main difference seems to be that the cheaper one doesn't have a brushless motor. If you don't mind that then the cheaper one will be fine for DIY use.
Thankyou, what are the benefits of a brushless motor? Also, is there any benefit to the saw that doesn't have the normal 'D' handle?Try and have a look at both Makita’s before you buy, I have a 10 year old LXT one which is great... builder used it, was impressed and bought a new brushless one but doesn’t get on with it and says mine is far more controllable. The BL version seems to have some auto load setting that increases speed automatically which he hates.

Just been swatting up on brushless motors and it seems that’s something designed in to lots of them. I think I’ll just go for the cheaper one and the money saved can go towards my impact driver.
Thanks for the help everyone.
Brushless has less to go wrong and more reliable in the long run, but unless your using it for 40 hours a week then it's unlikely you'll notice much difference. Thanks for the help everyone.
