I am looking to cover my concrete garage floor with something, probably rubber/pvc tiles and wondered if anyone has any recommendations.

It’s a graphite and red checkerboard pattern that I would quite like. The garage is 6.7 x 6.2 metres.

There are plenty of suppliers, and I am drawn to ‘Garage Pride’ and their professional 7mm thick solid tiles. At £1400 it’s quite expensive, and there are other options including ‘Duramat’ for about £800, but the tiles are 12mm thick and not solid, recycled plastic with a honeycombed underside, and probably not as strong.

Any recommendations and/or pictures for inspiration gratefully received!

I've got plasfloor too. Were cheaper than the alternatives at the time and are the thinner solid variety so fine for jacking cars on etc. Also a good company to deal with, I emailed regarding delivery times and they replied and told me to hold off for a couple of days as there was going to be a sale starting. Delivered on time and with some spares too. You can order samples from their website.

What are you planning to use the garage for?

If its just to store a few bits including a car, the duramat ones will be fine.

I went with 12mm heavy duty rubber mats in mine as I wanted a power rack and weights etc.

Storage, to put my Boxster in and general garage stuff. I am rather taken by the Garage Pride offering and they also have the ability to have a Porsche crest water cut into 4 of the tiles.... would look v smart, but not cheap.

I will look at the Duramat heavy duty, are they solid?

If using rubber tiles, as I use jacks/axlestands I would want the tinner solid type than a thicker honeycomb/foamed type.

However actually I just have concrete, which appears to be sealed with a concrete sealer, zero cost to me, easy to sweep, doesnt take in water/spills much, use a mat if lying on it.

I would like tiles/epoxy but struggling to justify the cost yet, would rather spend it on car parts or the house!

Q) What is the best way to cut the tiles?
A) Using a Jig Saw (£12 off Ebay) or a band saw, it is also possible to use a Stanley Knife but we wouldn’t recommended it due to repetitive strain.

Exactly how i feel - not sure i can justify the huge cost of fancy tiles, when using a car jack may cause damage. I have put up with cardboard laid flat when working under the car up to now...

I have a load of carpet removed from the house I may re-purpose then chuck away when filthy.

Used a common jig saw to cut the plassfloor tiles, easy to do, they are very tough, use jacks and stands, bike stands, and all leave no indentations on them, also use a quick jack system, and that too is fine lifting the whole car.

I’m also currently struggling with what option to go for in my garage. It’s 41sq/m and currently just a smooth concrete floor which is not so bad for dust just doesn’t look as nice as I would like it to.

Options are dotti R9 tiles but then have to pay someone to install them, or go for some rubber tiles and have a go myself... but do they discolour or start to look tatty...

Here’s what I’m faced with at the moment...

I've bought carpet tiles for half of mine and will paint the front half and see how it fares. The carpeted half is a bike trainer area so it's kind of a mini gym. The tiles were cheap and are hard-wearing and can easily come up if/when I fancy relaying with something else.

I've used Mototile recycled tiles in mine. I've had them in three different single garages now. Because I've moved about I've never tried cutting them, just get them to fit best as I can.

In one garage they were submerged when it flooded but after cleaning were fine. I've had jack's, axel stands and no damage I can see. I clean them with cellulose spirits if required for oil spills etc, again no issue.

I picked them as they were cheap!

Love it, that's what I am looking for, but maybe red and black check.

Where did you get those tiles from?

I used Duramat, and their 'Coinflex' tile. Much thinner and less hollow, so was better for my application.

Really pleased with them. Give them a call, they may suggest a tile that you hadn't considered.

I put black & grey industrial carpet tiles in my garage.
Been fine ever since I put them down, at least 2 years ago.
Get wet, they dry, no smell at all.
