Is the total difference sufficiently significant to justify falling out with them ?

Am I being unreasonable here?
Yes, I think you are (you could have paid well over the odds for the items, and are expecting them to absorb that), but equally I don't think it would be unreasonable to ask them for at least some evidence to substantiate what they 'think' would have been the cost to them under normal circumstances, before settling the payment.

I don't think your being unreasonable at all, if they have decided not to source and have agreed that you can, then the builder should deduct your total costs from the quote - you can evidence this with receipts.

They may have been able to source more cheaply but surely would have quoted an additional 5%-10% to cover time and cost to collect materials which they have not had to do?

How much is the difference is this £100 (eg: not worth the hassle) or £1000+?

I assume they have purchased these items before, ask them to demonstrate the usual cost that they pay - add on 10% and remove that from their quote.

Surely the difference can't be that huge if you've sourced via trade anyway?
