I am just about ready to attack the rear garden of our newly acquired home and damn, there are some serious weeds to clear.
Any advice on how to approach this? Should I get some weed killer and spray as is, or cut them down and spray the roots?
Any advice on what weed killer product would be great too - i have practically no knowledge in regards to gardening, so relying on you seasoned experts!

As a start I'd cut or mow it high to stop seeds setting, then nuke it with whatever you can get your hands on/cover with the carpets you are throwing out. Dig out those deep rooted weeds though, dandelion and dock in there!

probably pull alot of those out of the ground straight into the bin

when things get back to normal there should be sellers with this for around £10-12 per litre , this is the cheapest i can find in a quick look

Why not dig them out, getting right under the roots?

I’d dig it all over. Go down a full spade and turn the soil over. Pull out every root you can. Then rake it over and leave it. See what re-appears and dig out again.

I had a similar task in my Mums garden when she moved. Took ages but worth doing properly and hopefully you’ll only have to do it once.
