Hi I've got a Husqvarna 226HD60S which isn't running properly.

It starts fine but as soon as you apply full throttle it bogs down before cutting out. (Runs fine at full speed with half a fingers worth of throttle)

I've run it without the air filter and it keeps going when full throttle is applied but not at full speed.

Can anyone more versed on the laws in these matters help identify the issue? I've got bushes that need cutting. biggrin

It sounds like you need to adjust the high speed mixture

There's probably a screw labelled H somewhere that needs tweaking

start with the basics, if the petrol is from last year throw it away and put new petrol in.

Take the plug out and clean it, check the gap, make sure the HT lead is a snug fit.

Remove the air fiter, make sure its clean.

Remove the exhaust, I don't know where you are in the world but some are fitted with spark arrestor
screen which needs cleaning every week with a wire brush.

The removable screen needs cleaning regularly or replacing if it doesnt look perfect.

As you have guessed, the problem sounds like its breathing, either the inlet or the exhaust

Agreed, I had ithe same issue with a Titan strimmer. Pulled the SA screen and binned it, runs great now.

Tried cleaning the plug to no avail still bogs down and cuts out on full power.

Not sure where the SA screen is on this model?

Exactly this . Should be obvious marked on air cleaner cover but you may need the special tool - a hollow end rod with a little ridge down one side . You can buy these but there are several sizes. May just be ordinary screw. Best to drain tank and carb after every use if you dont use it weekly

Hi I can only find one adjustment screw on the carb it makes it idle faster or slower depending upon which way it is turned.

Makes no diffrence in relation to the current issue it still bogs under full load before cutting out.

Sorry

I've not worked with Husqvarnas before. Every other 2 stroke I've used before has had an H & L mixture screw.
The internet suggests yours doesn't.

I'd suggest you strip the carb and clean it and if that doesn't work run it over to a garden machinery engineer

Have you been meticulous with the petrol mix (if it requires it)?

I had similar using 1:40 but when I mixed more scientifically running through first with neat petrol to clear a strimmer it went back to normal.

Edited to add I had an issue with motorbike recently with good fuel delivery, fresh fuel and a strong spark and it would not go. As it was MOT time I let the garage go though it and fuel had congealed in the carb and the needles needed blowing out and it was back to first kick....

OP can you post close up pics of the carb, and look all round it ? Some new models have one screw ( which looks like the end of a rod 4 mm in diam recess in the alloy body) some now have none . In that case a new carb ( not cheap) or sometimes ultrasonic cleaning works. These Husqvarnas are made by Electolux and not to be confused with Husqvarna pro chainsaws. Also sold under other names Partner, MacCullough etc

Did you lend it to Brian May? If so, the blades might be clogged with...something.

The spark arrestor, if fitted to your model, srews on to the end of the exhaust, clean it with a wire brush, this needs regular maintenance.

I've located the high and low mixture adjusters hiding behind a cap next to the throttle adjuster.

Had a quick fiddle but I can not get it to run giving it the full finger treatment without bogging and cutting out but it does run at full power at say ¼ maybe ½ a fingers worth of throttle and it will run at a full fingers worth of thtottle with no air filter but not at full speed.

Mhmmm.

I had a similar problem with a mitox strimmer. For the tenner that it cost, a new carb was the answer. Unfortunately, husqvarna carbs are more than a tenner:

Try following this.

Rule out the carb first as thats most likely after the H and L screws are in the right position.

Watched a few videos on YouTube regarding the issue and it all points to the carburetor being at fault. confused

Think I will go with a cordless battery one next time. frown I hate tiny two smoke engines very temperamental in my experience.

It won't beat me though. I like a challenge it will trim my bushes again even if I have to replace every part on it.

Fish out the fuel filter inside the tank, take it off and try running without.

Setting idle and high carb adjustments are not "a quick fiddle" and more often than not make things worse. The manufacturers spec will give you the correct RPM for both H and L but how can you measure it? I found this app years ago that uses sound to measure it - got me out of a fix many a time.
