Looking to move there. Beautiful cathedral city close to Birmingham but far away enough from the hustle and bustle. Direct train to London from there with a 90 minute train ride as well.Only problem is for such a beautiful tiny city seems to be a hell of alot of council houses when Ive been looking around......Anyone who knows the area got any advice of the best areas to move to there and the areas to avoid?

I lived there for 6 months a few years ago. Lovely city and I didn't notice any chav areas in particular. I used to commute to London every day but didn't find the service reliable - the line tended to go down a lot rather than an issue with London Midland or Virgin. Getting home using an alternative route is tough too - had to go via Leicester one time!

Used to visit Sutton Coldfield quite a bit with work, 4-5 times a year. Always found it a nice area and not that far from Litchfield. Perhaps somewhere else you could look?
Sutton Coldfield is likely to be well out of budget I'd have thought. My grandparents had a flat almost opposite the station in Lichfield and we used to visit regularly. It's a lovely little place but I'm not too familiar with the areas slightly out of the centre I'm afraid so can't be of any help
Boley park used to be a really nice estate. A long time since I've lived there, and when I popped by last year it still seemed nice. Mix of housing styles and costs - some roads nicer than others.
I also had friends living just up the A38 - Alrewas (expensive) and Barton-under-Needwood (mixed) - but Lichfield was much better for stuff to do and transport links.

I was born in and grew up in Lichfield - lived there for c. 25 years. Moved away 6 years ago. Happy to answer any questions privately or on here!
My parents now live on Boley Park, my sister in Fradley. I lived in a flat by Waitrose (right by Waitrose...) for 5 years. Personally, I'd avoid the Dimbles, Netherstowe is better.
There have been lots of new houses built over the years. We lived by Waitrose from 2003-2007 in a 5 bed house, then moved to Boley Park in 2007. My parents prefer it there, bigger garden, bigger driveway, 80s houses. My sister also loves Fradley, depending on where you wanted to live, and her 3-bed link detached came in just over 200k 2 years ago. Roman Heights new houses are very convenient for Lichfield Trent Valley (on the mainline to London) but have a premium too.
We previously lived in Whittington, which is more expensive and a little further away but still driveable (10-15mins from the stations).

Yes. I would categorise most houses between the railway, King Edwards School, the A38 and Cappers Lane as "Boley Park"Spring Road is Netherstowe yes. If you've got kids then King Eddies was always the "best" then Friary, then Netherstowe but I didn't go to school in Lichfield so sadly can't comment.
I’ve lived in several areas of Lichfield - Beacon Street, then North East Lichfield off Eastern Avenue, Boley Park, and now Whittington.
I moved to the area about 20 years ago, and think it’s a great place to live, there always seems to be something going on.
In general, South Lichfield is the nicest, although there are plenty of nice roads on the North side, just avoid the Dimbles.
I feel nicely settled in Whittington now, it feels rural but only 5 minutes drive to the city centre.

I don't really know Lichfield, seems pleasant from visits.
But my strategy is always the same, even in towns I know quite well. Identify the areas with suitable houses and walk the streets, talk to people, note civic pride, gardens, houses, skips and builders vans, use all your senses, listen and smell as well as look. Walk along the alley ways and footpaths, take a dog if you have one, and different times of day. It can take days to do this properly, walk your station route, walk your route to shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs, churches, council offices, (visit when possible) visit parks and green spaces, walk passed schools and car parks.
Once I've found a suitable house I've even knocked on neighbours doors.
It's difficult to get the feel for a place from the Internet followed with a drive by.

Do you mean Curborough Road? The North end isn’t so good due to it’s proximity with the Dimbles estate, but closer you get to the centre and the junction with Gaia Lane - one of the nicer roads in Lichfield - the better it is. Is Dimbles Lane the 'Dimbles' or are they other parts of it? Watson Road looked a bit dodgy. What's Curbourgh like? Any other roads / areas to avoid?

Some new builds in Streethay. All the houses seem a bit souless though being New builds. Like the look of the area around Morrisons just off Beacon Street if can 3 bed houses round there in the coming weeks. Boley Park looks great but can't find any houses in my price range of around £260k.
