Partywall surveyors, need to see building control plans?
Discussion
Hi
Im instructing a party wall surveyor, will they want to see my building control plans?
Whats the going rate? im getting quotes back between...700--1400 im mid-Terrance so its an award for both neighbours.
When inserting steels, will the builder rest the steel on one brick, i suppose with a victorian property there will be no cavity, that's not a lot of support for a steel.
Thanks PHeads

You only really have to instruct if your neighbours don’t agree with the works being carried out,
I’ve done about 100 lofts and have never used a party wall surveyor.
The steel sits on one brick so only has 100mm bearing, this is quite normal under these circumstances, they generally sit on steel plates rather than deep concrete padstones.

yeah as above, you would only need a party wall surveyor if there's some form of dispute. If you're doing the works and nobody has objected or raised an issue then it should be fine. I know some very good surveyors i can recommend if needed - send me a PM if you haven't already instructed, otherwise maybe just hold off until it becomes an issue. They will probably advise you that you definitely need one 'just in case' but in reality this will just mean you save time later on down the line. Not always a problem though so may be a bit overkill at this stage.

This is wrong. But this is right.
