Thought I ask the opinion of PH readers about this one.
Mum bought stair carpet from SCS, fitted Dec 2018, now the stairs are not used much, maybe four of five trips up and down each day if that.
Noticed a hole in the carpet February this year contacted SCS who responded
Good Afternoon,
Thank you for your email, please accept out apologies for the issues highlighted
Unfortunately due to the length of time you have had the carpet the hole that has developed will be down to local causes
Many thanks,
Sam
Got back in touch pointing out that the carpet was down only a short while, had light use and we expected it to last longer and they responded
Good Afternoon,
Thank you for your email.
The issue you are seeing is called ‘Heel & Toe’ damage, this is caused when your heel and toe strike the gripper thus loosening the carpet backing, enabling the carpet tufts to come loose.
We are therefore unable to take your issues any further and consider this to be closed.
Contacted SCS again to point out that the carpet was fitted by their approved fitters and if the grips came loose it must be due to poor fitting.
SCS have not come back to use.
Anyone with any thoughts, experience or views?
Kind Regards,

I can't help, but SCS are an absolute s
t show of a company. I got my flat hall and bedrooms carpeted in February and it turned out their surveyor had measured wrongly which left me with an unsightly join in one of the bedrooms. Thankfully it's in a fairly inconspicuous place and i can hide it with furniture but I had to chase and chase to get any sort of recognition that they had made an error. I did get £150 knocked off the cost in the end but it was not a great experience and I got the impression that they didn't really care at all.

Be prepared for a lengthy annoying fight though. Try plastering over social media first and hope they roll over.
Small local firms are the way to go for carpets, it won’t be any more expensive, they’ll use quality underlay and carpet and use skilled fitters who care about what they’re doing
