Patio quote-comment on details please
Discussion
Hi - I got a company to give a quote for paving. For what its worth, company is very well known locally and have done tons of job locally with many recommendations on local facebook page.
Below is extract from quotation. It is for around 15sqm patio so quite small.i dont know what depth of subbase they will put so will ask. Anything else i should be asking (looks like they are proposing individual cement bedding which i think is not recommended but i maybe mistaken).

Thanks

Instead of going onto a forum to ask advice, wouldn't it be better to ask the contractor for a breakdown of prices/ labour first?
Slabs, how much are they?
Labour, how many days work?
Sub base, have many tons etc.
It is not rocket science.
I should have said but I am more interested in feedback on anything that maybe doesn't look right in terms of construction or materials rather than pricing. Slabs, how much are they?

That sounds a bit rich for 15m2 if its straight forward, which of course it may not be, but by the sound of the quote it is. I will say it does add up though so could well be fair, depending on full spec and actual porcelain being used, might be £75 a meter for all we know, might be £25?
Does depend on where you are, maybe its central london.
Feel free to send me a link for an unbiased opinion. I may well know of them as im on several paving and landscaping pages on facebook.
c20 straight to the earth though? i suppose depends on ground but here i am doing a membrane, 100mm type 1, then 120mm of c15 then 50mm of full bed, we have heavy clay which is very prone to movement.

That's substantial. Are you planning to park a car on it? (serious question, that's not far off a grasscrete pad construction) langtounlad said:

That seems odd. Would have thought most would want a deposit of atleast enough to cover the materials. Hard to say on price, porcelain seems to range from about £30sqm to mega money.

Individual bedding is fine (and necessary if there is variation of slab thickness) but that assumes a *full* bed - not 'spot bedding' which typically has five blobs giving voids and poor support. OpulentBob said:

(serious question, that's not far off a grasscrete pad construction) You could park a car on it, intact the spec for a porcelain patio is in excess to the 150mm of type 1 on a driveway we do. Thing is if the block paving moves 2mm even i would struggle to see it, if porcelain moves 2mm the first thing you will see is a crack as the joints are so small and its all so perfect

He's an absolute mug imo. Not taking a deposit is stupid. Saying nothing to pay until satisfied is even more stupid. And putting 'cash price' on paper is more stupid again. He's practically begging to be f
ked hard in the ass. If the OP doesn't, someone else will. Can't comment on the spec.
