Got one of these in our en suite, which is c. 2.5 years old

As well as a heater pad and shaver charging point, it has built in LEDs which are activated via an IR sensor at the bottom - you just wave your hand underneath to turn it on and off. There is an audible click when they turn on.

The lights wouldn't turn on this morning. No click. The heater pad still works fine. Not checked the shaver socket.

Anyone got any idea whether there is likely to be anything obvious to check?

IR sensor or proximity sensor?

When the sensor failed on mine it failed dangerous in that the lights stayed on, which was irritating.

I bought another sensor through the bathroom shop that supplied the cabinet but I could have got the same thing (or umpteen variations) for less from Amazon. The reviews for almost all of them were scathing, they are just cheap Chinese crud after all.

Fitting it was fairly straightforward once I’d figured out how to get to the internal wiring but I’m sure you could get an electrician to do it too.

Ours failed recently aswell...(not LED).....I was already to scrap it but a few mins sourcing this and about 10 mins to replace has it working again.

I’m sure you could get the correct one for your application for not a lot.

Excellent. Many thanks for the link.

I’ll give them a call in the morning to see if they can suggest anything. If not, good to see I can get a replacement unit.

If there isn't a click then that would suggest the sensor/relay part but you say the demister pad still works, what switches that on then? I doubt its powered 24 hrs a day as the mirrors only have 1 power supply connection to them. Needs the front taking off and seeing what has power and what doesn't, it could be just the driver for the LED;s has gone.

I did take the mirror off this afternoon. Apologies for dark picture, but lighting circuit was off at the time!

Of course, the picture isn’t the right way up rolleyes You’ll have to imagine it rotated 90 degrees clockwise to match my comments below:

The IR sensor is at the bottom, with the LED transformer top right. The white lead connects to the heater pad on the mirror. Nothing obviously amiss.

Emailed them and they don’t supply any spares which is just daft. I managed to find the company CEO on LinkedIn though, and he’s promised to look into what they can do!

We have a similar mirror and the sensor for the lights failed also. We don’t use it often, so I modified it so the mechanical on/off switch on the side does both the LED lights and the de-mist pad, the logic being that if you want one of them on then it’s no big deal having the other on also. Clearly if you want the lights on and off regularly with a hand-wave this won’t be so ideal!

Its a bit hard to tell but looking at that photo the demister pad could be on 24 hrs a day if the main power to the mirror is on, I take it the white figure of 8 type connector is for the demister and that looks like it wires straight to the main connector.

If it is the sensor you could always swap it for a mini pull cord instead, something like this

or try to source a similar sensor switch, I have seen loads of faulty sensor switches on mirrors and cabinets though.

An update...

Got a great response to my LinkedIn messages. CEO passed me to the Sales Director who confirmed that they don’t hold any stock of the parts, but have offered a replacement mirror as a goodwill gesture. Very happy with that!

Thanks for the suggestions above - I might try and get the old one working so it can go in my son's en suite.
