Bed suggestion ideas

Evening all,

I'm in the process of looking at furniture for my impending new house, and I'm going for an art-deco theme (no comments please, I like what I like).

I'd found an absolutely ideal kingsize bed as seen below. I was a big fan of how the headboard includes bedside cabinets and lamps too:

However a big issue is the fact it's upholstered in Velvet. I'm not a fan as its hard to clean and soon wears, but my girlfriend actually has a phobia of velvet to the point where she'd sleep on the floor..... in another room. Reading website feedback it seems they have no plans to offer a different fabric anytime soon.

Unfortunately despite extensive googling I haven't been able to find another one like it. However there must be something - such a design but in wood not fabric would be ideal, and they must exist because a lot of hotel beds have a similar setup of one-piece headboard, lamps and cabinets. In fact, one (fittingly) art-deco hotel near me in Liverpool has similar, in a lovely burr wood too. I feel I'm missing a key noun/adjective for these types of bed setup - is there one?

Matt let your girlfriend pick the bed. Picking the one you like which then leads to you getting no action because off some weird phobia, is not worth the risk.

Are you any good at woodwork? You could build a headboard from reclaimed timber in a chevron pattern that would evoke the deco style perhaps? You could then attach cupboards yourself. No velvet involved.

DIY or get an upholsterer to make you something bespoke, can't be that expensive I wouldn't imagine, although more hassle than buying from a big showroom I guess

I'm not going to pick this bed because I do want some action(!), however as she wont be living there and I will, I'm damned if she's picking the bed overall!

I'm not sure where to start on this, hence not having done so yet. I mean, I very much doubt any of the front of house staff would have the foggiest and I'm not sure they'd let some weirdo bed obsessed bloke see the manager.....

Neat video, and worth considering. However, reclaimed shabby chic isnt quite the look I'm after.
I am considering trying to construct my own version of the art deco headboard, however having quickly looked it doesnt seem to be easy to get sheets of mahogany/burr walnut in that size.... They must be available somewhere though!

I dunno, do you like being bombarded with videos of cute cats and dogs, woken up in the night for bathroom breaks, and cuddled with ice-cold hands and feet upon return?
