Diesel Space Heaters

As title, thinking about purchasing one of these:

to heat a warehouse.

Anyone use them? Do they give off alot of fumes? Can you use regular diesel in them?

We're currently using large electric fan heaters which are useless.

Propane heaters are better for indoors in my experience. The diesel ones are ok if you need a more compact unit to lug about. They use regular fuel but they can be a bit messy, I wouldn’t use one indoors though.

This type of thing is pretty good, you can get lower power units. Can’t help on cost of running I’m afraid.

In my opinion they are good for heating a large space and dont fume to badly if there running properly, they can burn regular diesel, red diesel, kerosene but they are quite heavy on fuel.

The other problem is what do you use this warehouse for and what do you store in it, insurance companies are not keen on you using open flame heaters where there is anything flammable.

Doesn't burning gas give off a lot of water vapour? I might be wrong...

It does. That's why you see the steam plume from a gas boiler flue.

We had two huge propane heaters running all day and we'd empty two very large gas cylinders every day in our old warehouse (20,000 sq ft)

Our new warehouse is just 4000 sq ft but we have staff working in and around it. After visiting a friends garage, i thought the diesel heater was really effective

Depends on your fuel source. My local Romanian mechanic uses a diesel heater because there is a free source of fuel from cars with rusty fuel tanks, misfuels etc.

I have this one which I use red diesel in. Quite handy with a thermostat on.

But it heats a very poorly insulated garage with high ceilings no problem. Not noticed any issue with fumes to be honest.

Does use a lot of fuel, and quite noisy when running but wouldn't be without it.

That should not be used in any enclosed space, you need to use an indirect model with chimney to the outside.

We sell these things. Go for an infrared one, much less fumes but still very good heat output. Less noise too. Can be run on red diesel fine but run cleaner on kerosene.

Thanks. I assume it runs on regular diesel as well?

What's the difference between this and a normal diesel space heater?

Yes will work on diesel tho from experience all heaters give more trouble/smoke down the line when exclusively run on it. But yes they're designed to take it.

The infrared has a better air heat, runs cleaner and is quieter than a traditional rocket.

This was my concern. I guess this leaves us with propane as the only option. We have a large electric fan heater but you may as well eat some hot mints and breathe heavily in the warehouse

Indirect diesel heaters have an exhaust out the top which can be connected to extraction
And don’t stink

We use one, and it's awful. Fumes aren't a problem, but the noise is. After 9 hours working within 10 metres of it, I'm deaf for about half an hour.

We run it on kerosene from a bulk tank, and it burns 50 litres a day in a 2500 sq ft workshop with an eave height of about 15 ft. We've got propane ones, too. They're as noisy, and a pain in the arse to fuel.
