Looks interesting

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/new-20...

Prices unclear but apparently more than the Ioniq5. Not v interested in near-600bhp. 400 is fine for me! Not for the badge snobs of course but a 7-year warranty suggests this might be a good long term purchase

And prices released - from just over £40k to about £58k. Hmm tempting to order one even though I hate doing that before seeing and sitting in etc. Makes getting another ipace look like a silly idea (not that I would get the same car twice on the trot)

£40k sounds like a bargain for the specs.

That looks really good. It's funny reading the comments on that site, it seems no one is ever happy.

This will be a game changer as it stands Porsche etc on their head for cost vs performance. Kia already has a good reputation in the EV market place and this is right up there with the best.

The downside is the most performance has the smallest battery (to make way for the extra motor) and although 250 miles range is acceptable, once you use that power you can almost half the range.

Not sure I understand the 800v chargers either. What network uses these and can you charge a non-800v car on them (does it do both)?

Not sure you are right on that - the Kia press page says that the GT only comes with the larger battery https://www.kiapressoffice.com/en-gb/releases/1309

There's very few 800 volt chargers available at the moment. I think they use the standard CCS type-2 connector, albeit with a water cooled cable so they should be backwards compatable. I assume the charger and car negotiate the charging voltage before charging commenses.

Right now - Ionity, Gridserve, Fastned in the UK. Currently 16 sites (just singles at present for Griderve/Fastned), minimum of 4 chargers per site. Ionity have quite a few more sites planned in the coming years, and the Gridserve/Ecotricity deal means in time all the MSAs will get a new bank of 6-12 350kW chargers.

And yes, they'll charge anything with a CCS connector.

EV6 looks OK. Aiming for iPace kind of territory, while I'm not a fan of SUVs, these lower sleeker ones are better. Not my market really but will be interesting when this filters down in a couple of years.

1600kg tow rating for the "what about my caravan?" types.

Ah that makes sense I clearly read that wrong.

16 sites yikes

This is rather like Betamax vs VHS where Tesla is currently Betamax. I wonder how long before we start to see chargers replacing petrol pumps, because in all honesty this needs to happen sooner rather than later if they want to encourage people to adopt EV's.

If you mean wholesale replacement, this Fulham site has already closed for liquid fuel and will be opening as a charging hub very soon: https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/features/how-sh...

And my last public charge was at this, on a petrol forecourt on New Kent Road. Probably as many chargers as petrol pumps.

MFG are planning to do 40 sites this year, at least 50 a year beyond that. https://www.current-news.co.uk/news/motor-fuel-gro...

The ability to tow a trailer is an essential for me.

I've been driving a Taycan 4S hire for 10days and did not think to ask about ability to tow. Pretty impressive car imo. Typical Porsche stupidly expensive. £60K will be half the price of the 4S

This is really positive and the mass adoption is well under way. I wonder what will be on the market when I come to trade up the Model 3 smile

Whilst I like the look of this for an SUV, it's not the type of car I'm interested in buying. It does look very promising for the future development of cars I am more interested in. Taycan is a hugely impressive bit of kit but I would struggle to justify spending that amount of money. If these lot did say a Golf sized car capable of 3.3 sec 0-60 NOW you've got my attention. Kia brand wouldn't matter in the slightest.

Edit: Actually, having watched that Youtube video it maybe isn't that far away from a Golf. Hmmm.....

Taycan 4S is £83k (or £71k if you go for the RWD version). Even with a few options its far from double the price and Good value when you compare to other Porsches and premium EV's.

I really like this, and the prospect of Taycan rivalling performance in a package that costs less than a basic E-Tron is mouthwatering. I think the D-pillar and rear lights look awkward, but you can't have everything. First the Stinger, now this - Kia are really crushing it.

Despite excellent reviews UK Stinger sales were still pretty poor though with the £45k asking price likely being the issue?

Need to see real world performance and range figures for the GT model before getting too excited IMHO. Based on the weight (2200KG?) and performance output with a 77Kw battery it's surely going to really struggle with range?

Like the look of the EV6.
Kia are making some good stuff. Our Soul has been great and if we hadn't bought a Tesla via my wife's business I would definitely be driving a Stinger 3.3 now. Fully loaded as standard, 7 yr warranty, great to drive as BMW's M car man did the chassis and it just crept under the luxury car tax limit - 40k or thereabouts base price when I was looking last year. Poor Stinger sales because not German?
