Hi all

Ive thought of a pergola to provide shade for my pond but its looking like £1500+ for a guy to come and build one. 3 times more than I thought.
My DIY is just too hopeless for me to attempt a pergola build.
Anyway Ive (hopefully) attached a picture. The problem Ive got is the sun comes from the right and for a lot of the day shines through the gap onto my pond.
I was thinking maybe I could attach some sort of bracket system to the fence posts (next door neighbours fence not mine unfortunately) Then maybe get some shade fabric of some sort and fit that to the brackets to fill in the gap and proved full shade.

I need about 2 1/2' foot wide of shade "thing" by about 15' in length down the fence.

Anyone any ideas?

Thanks

Lots of people use 2 or 3 of these at different angles and levels to give the desired effect, an option?

That could be I guess, one of those is what is already up there. They have curved edges is the main issues so I cant get a complete shade along one edge.
I'll look into them some more.
Thanks

Punch a few more eylets into the shade and attach at more points along the fence. Buy a rectangular sail.

Not sure how crap it would look, but maybe a sail starting at a height lower than the top of the fence & then over the top of the existing sail ?

Neighbours fence, so would likely need your own posts.

Plant something tall like black bamboo along that boundary where you need the shade. You could probably get a couple of long deep containers to contain them so no concerns over spread.

Bit of a thread bump..but did you find a solution? I have a similar gap between a pergola and a fence that I wish to fill for privacy reasons, the best idea I have at the minute is to try and train some ivy across the gap but would be interested in other ideas.
