How/where do you find a cleaner?

Having recently moved to a (much) bigger house, I discover that I have neither the time nor the inclination to clean it properly. So, I've decided to get a cleaner.
It's a thought train that then runs straight into the buffers as I have not the first idea how to get a cleaner, where to find them, what I'd expect to pay, or anything at all about the process!
Any suggestions?

One of the few things local Facebook groups are useful for.
You’ll probably find you have to get a new one every few months at least - some are useless, some keep not turning up, and other just leave for various other reasons. Occasionally you’ll find an absolute gem - hold onto them, make them lots of tea and biscuits, buy them a Christmas card - they are rare. It is the sort of job done as a short term thing by many people though, hence the turnover.
Two types of cleaner too, ones that come via agencies and ones that just work for themselves. The former are more expensive but (in theory at least) you get holiday cover if your normal cleaner is away, and you have a boss to complain to if they do a poor job. The second are cheaper and in our experience no more or less reliable. But you do have to ‘manage the staff’ if things aren’t done the way you want. And you’ll discover the meaning of the ancient phrase ‘it’s so hard to get good staff these days’.
Worth noting that we’ve never once had anything taken, they’ve always been completely honest in that regard.

However, I dismissed this as I don't really want to leave a whopping great God shocker lying around.
