large Sofas how they get them into tight spaces?

Hi going to look to replace our 25 year old 3 seater sofa just waiting on covid store restrictions to visit sofa stores, but just had a flash back of 2 delivery guys struggling like no mans business to deliver a 3 seater sofa into my living room.

I vaguely remember them sweating, huffing and it was not easy due to our narrow hall way and then they had to twist and turn a 3 seater sofa and come in and out of cupboards and toilets just to get it to squeeze through the living room door.

Have newer sofas (3 and 4 seater) sofas solved this issue?

I've taken a few livingroom windows out before now.

I had to take the upvc front door out, to get our big 3 seater settee in. That was with a straight path into the front room too. The delivery guys had given up, and left it in the garage.

This, done it before. Depending on the age of your windows it's often easier than you'd imagine.

Some come in pieces now. Our latest ones split in two, but it was still tight

On most recliners, the back rests lift off which makes moving them a lot easier.

Additionally, some can be separated as well as having removable back rests.

Unless access to your lounge is really, really tight it's unlikely you'll have any issues.

Got old timber sashes here - takes 10 mins to take out.
The only way we got out 3 seater in here.

aha ! so some sofa creator knew what he was doing and thinking of others, are there any separate stores that do split units you know of ?

I will check some but couldn't see any mention in some places faqs

what a pitta to take out windows and doors frankly, SCS faq mentions windows and door removal to gain access is your responsibility naturally.

But ScS does say if required they can send an technician to dismantle the sofa to move it in am trying to find that cost still, you would think by now they would have some system where each seat can be screwed in or fit like lego blocks !

I have a large corner sofa,came in 2 pieces that clip together,still had to remove the front door and the lounge door to get it in with 3 men doing the lifting

As someone living in a 5th floor flat with a small lift and narrow stairs, I am extremely grateful for modular sofas. Nabru, in my case.

For a similar reason I once had flat pack.

I purchased a three seater Ikea Ektorp a while back and was delighted to find that it came in a flat pack unlike previous versions, which I struggled to get into our house. I even managed to get the box on the roof rack of a VW Up!

We just replaced a 3.1m long sofa with a 3.2m long one. Our lounge room is on the third floor of a Victorian Terrace house.

We used these guys and it all went smoothly.

We bought a Tetrad Eastwood Grand suite. It's a classic design that's been around for decades i think. It's mahoosive and thankfully comes in two halves. I think most of their sofas do.

Not that acess or space was an issue but we have modular ones that also came in a few bits to be easily put together, Snug sofas. Very comfortable too.
