Settees that come apart (and getting one upstairs)

When I moved into my house, I had a plan to convert one of the upstairs bedrooms into a cinema room. I mentioned this to the movers as I was considering putting a settee up there ready, and they said that there's no way that you'd get a settee up the stairs and round the corner into the room unless it was one where the backrest part was a seperate section that could be removed.

Do such things exist, and if so, where could I get one?

A friend had a recliner sofa, that came in two pieces. Base and the back slotted into the base. Not certain of the make sadly.

I got lazyboy recliners earlier this year that did just that.

We have some Natuzzi recliner sofa's that are 2 parts, slotted together. They're chuffing heavy though !

Our recliner sofa splits down into the respective seats, so might get up a standard staircase. I think it's a common feature as each seat has to operate as a separate unit.

If nothing else in the reclined position each seat is long and flat, and obviously it can be bent around corners.

Just employ some indigenous artisans to weave you a custom rattan settee in situ.

This is exactly what we have. They are moduler so you can make them long or short etc. And they come in boxes with the arms, back and bit you sit on all separate.

Very comfortable too.

Bear in mind though that recliners are heavy as they have the recliner mechanism as well as each seat being a seperate unit.

There’s also Swyft. If you google “sofa in a box” there’s a few places that have sofas that need assembled. I’ve never sat on one though so no idea of comfort.

I had a couple of new sofas delivered once and the delivery men damaged one it getting it in the house. I contacted the supplying shop, who immediately sent 'their man' around to 'sort it', as an option to a 4 month wait for a replacement.

In the time it took me to make him a cup of tea, the chap had repaired the damaged sofa so well, my wife was unable to pinpoint which sofa had suffered the damage.

I asked the chap if the delivery staff damaged enough stuff to keep him busy all day, but he said most of his work was disassembly of soft furniture intended for properties with limited access and then reassembly when it reached the flat/floor/attic where-ever it was destined. He said he also often added additional structure to make the item stronger or less likely to creak.

We have just ordered a couple of IKEA Vimle modular sofas. We were going to order from Nabru, but the prices increased too much and went out of our budget.

We got our sofa from Wayfair and it's a full modular thing, the sides, back and main sitting surface are all individual items that you slot together. Very light and would be very easy to haul up/around stairs etc

They look a good shout. I wonder whether the backs mount on separately? If they do, this might be ideal.

Due to having access issues in the past, I have checked quite a few sofas - and all the recliners I've seen to date had removable back rests.

Some even split into 2 as well.

Something modular would do the job, as has been mentioned. Each unit of mine would fit up some stairs, and they’re held together by (quite strong) clips under the base.
